Bultaco

  1. Started by smelling123,

Bit wierd but my recently acquired 340 has a 36mm Bing ! I am assuming this has been fitted in error? I'd guess 36mm would be about right for an MX engine. I was pretty sure they came with 28mm??? Also, is the standard 199b (11t x 39t) gearing the same on a 198b or did the 250 have diffenent gearing? many thanks! Stu

I took the taco plunge last week when I found this one on local CL.. Seems to have most of the important pieces intact...the m 49 seat in photo did not come with it .will need to remove buddy seat frame and pegs. I cleaned the IRZ carb and it fired right up..top end and clutch are a little noisey.. Plan is to ride it as is this summer and do a frame up "rider resto" this winter.. Can't wait to tear into it tho..

I have torque figures of 5 ft/lbs for both crank case bolts and crank seal holders. This seems little more than finger tight. Anyone have anything different?

Just about to order electrexworld ignition for the Sherpa ( 191 ). I don't need DC lighting system but it says the basic one is available in 6v or 12v. I'm embarrassed to say I'm not sure which it is, I can't see anything on it to suggest either.I has the Femsa 4 magnet flywheel which is about 98mm inside diameter.Presumably early ones were 6v, did they change to 12v....if so when?

Hi everyone, will a later style, ‘72-later ignition cover with the clutch arm on the top fit my model 76 1971 175 Lobito with the earlier cover with the clutch cable that enters from the bottom of the cover?

  8. On my M91, with the clutch lever pulled in, the engine will not turn over when I push the kickstart down. Is this normal? If not, any ideas on what might be causing it? Just to be clear, the kickstart lever goes down (very easily), but the engine doesn't spin over.

Ok, what am I doing wrong? I think I've been away too long from Bultos racing 4 strokes with electronic ignition. I've rigged up a lamp and buzzer to test the ignition timing on the M80 I am rebuilding. There are 3 wires from the magneto. Black, green and yellow. I assume yellow is from the lighting coil and so I've blanked it off. I've connected black to the coil and green to a good earth. To test the timing I've attached one lead from the tester to the black wire which I've disonnected from the coil, and the other lead to earth. I've set the piston at TDC and rotated backwards towards 2.9mm BTDC. Problem is the light doesn't go out when the points open, which I thou…

I am having trouble starting my bike after taking it from a few boxes of parts to something that resemblies a Bultaco. I think I have kicked it over 1000+times praying each time but no luck. Here are some of the things I have tried and their results. FYI. It did start right away after I got it all together and it ran for 1 minute before it ran out of gas. It has new rings Cleaned all jets (2) with carb cleaner and compressed air - NO START It was over flowing the bowl and leaking. I made a new gasket and adjusted float -NO START ( But not overflowing or leaking ) I started to think spark issues maybe - I placed the opened up gap on the plug on the head and there w…

Hi everyone - I'm new to this so go easy! I have just bought a 1968 Model 27 Sherpa T. I have bought it from the original owner who purchased it brand new in 1968. My query is this: He tells me it is a four speed but I wonder if this is correct as I thought the model 27 was the first of the 5speeds? It is road registered and has been from new! I have posted a picture - (please ignore the colourscheme - this will be put right in due course. Engine and frame numbers match and are M27-00*** Can any of you eagle eyed Bultaco experts tell me if I am missing anything or does the bike look largely complete? Thanks for your help Jon

I have just been cleaning the rear brake plate on my late 60s Sherpa and noticed that one of the boss' for the brake shoe pin is cracked in 3 places. I don't know whether the wheel is original to the bike so pic of plate I suppose it may be possible to get it welded but I think I would be happier with a better one. Thanks, Keith.

I have a 350 Bultaco from the seventies that is a definite restoration project, but I don't know just what it is. It has twin plugs which I thought would be for a quick change over mid section if the other plug fouled. But now I'm wondering if it is a moto crosser Pursang. Anyone have any thoughts on the matter, cos' I'm going to sell it and have no idea what to ask for it.

  20. Hi folks, I've started to restore our old Bultaco (again!). I've also started a little blog to document how it's all progressing. If anyone's interested follow the link and take a look, although I'm still only at the strip down stage. Today I've scanned in the parts list for this bike and put up a link on the blog where you can download it. It might be useful to some others. The link is entry number 12. http://ralphsbultaco.blogspot.co.uk I'd like to here from any other owners who've restored one. Thanks, Ralph.
