Hello All, I rode my 350 sherpa last weekend and if started to p*** fuel out of the overflow on the carb. It didn't matter if it was running or not. I took the float bowl off and everything seem ok. It's never done this before and I would like to keep my Bing.

Hi , rode in a trial last week and after a while of carb experimenting got the bike to be realy smooth at the bottom end and carburates realy well everywere else . problem is now even when not very hot I have pinking or pre ignition just over tickover ie under load , not terrible but its there , im on middle position needle , with air screw 1.5 turns out .When the needle is raised , the pinking goes and the air screw needs to be screwed all the way in to run ok , but only ok not smooth at the bottom end like the settings I have now. My thoughts are to go up on the pilot jet first , what do any of you guys think ? Carb is mk1 concentric and not worn on the slide , float…

Thanks for all of the suggestions, help and personal messages offering assistance. I have got the cases back together. I heated the right side in the kitchen oven when the wife was out and it slipped right on without even using a rubber hammer. I have now started to assemble the ignition/flywheel, the gearshift etc.... I just need to get a few new things a seal, a lock nut for the kickstart spring holding nut ( is that avaliable?), the four long studs to hold the cylinder and head, a new set of rings (which i have to figure out what size they are), a holding washer for the sprocket, so really not all that bad considering it came to me as a basket of parts that changed …

Apologies if this has been raised before, but what's the best thing to do with an old glassfibre petrol tank that has not been used for many years? I've swilled the tank out with petrol to get rid of any loose debris on the M80 I am rebuilding and removed the tap ready for a new one. But the inside of the tank is very sticky with a yellowy brown film that sticks to your finger when you wipe inside the tank. Is this likey to be old 2 stroke oil or something worse like the effect of ethanol? I don't know how long ethanol has been added to petrol and I don't know how long the bike has been stood. Should I fit a new tap and fill it up and hope for the best or is there someth…

Over the weekend I competed in a vintage trials and a poker run on my M98 “Sherpina”. Both had some high-speed open field sections where I had the bike WFO in 5th gear. Twice the bike began to miss and sputter at full throttle. Changing the spark plug fixed the issue. Looking for an answer I discovered lead-fouling of spark plugs. This is more common in aviation, but it seems to make sense. Back in May I purchased some leaded race fuel, Trick 110, which I mixed 50/50 with non-ethanol premium (92 RON+MON/2), for running in my vintage motocross bike which needs the higher octane. Since I didn’t want the fuel to go to waste, I have been using it in other bikes. Two of the bi…

  13. Saw this and liked it. Anyone know what it is? Someones concept or does it exist? Looks like a "this is what a sherpa might have looked like by 1985".. http://www.flickr.com/photos/76022002@N08/8506871239/in/photostream

As above, my newly acquired mod 183 ('76 350) has a slightly bent upwards swingarm on the the left side just forward of the brake stay fixing point. I will attempt to have it straightened but would then like to leave it as original because it still has all the original brackets and clips in place for the stop lamp switch and its cable, which I don't need at the moment but would be nice to keep in place. Basically, I'd like another swingarm to install for some actual Twin Shock competition which won't bend, what would people suggest please? My thoughts are...... 1). Source another 159/183/191 swingarm on ebay or wherever and weld gussets along the the top s…

  15. This restored ? Is in my opinion questionable the same bike ,, model 480510 sold as easy rider bike on bohamas auctions , do you see the differences , and on other side it has mk2 up pipe exhaust ,, I working on 48 engine , and started looking for a frame , some one on line said it was a copy , and not the original , ridden by Fonda , , so I found clip on handle bars , chain guard , front wheel hub , spokes different , fork tube has brake tang , seat , little torn , ,, and if mk3 why mk2 exhaust up pipe ,

I've just acquired a 1966 Model 10 for restoration that has had its bottom frame loop sliced off and replaced with a skid plate. I'd really prefer to restore her to a good old fashioned bottom loop. The 4 speed engine of course has its third engine mount below the gearbox so at the moment all these 18 Bultaco HP's are suspended by 2 bolts only. Is a replacement frame (hen's teeth?) my only option here?

I have recently dragged my last remaining Bultaco from the back of the shed where it has spent the last couple of years in disgrace. A few years back I decided to try sidecar trials, so got hold of a chair which was once fitted to a '74 model 125. I purchased a matching bike which was running absolutely perfectly, but had trashed lower frame rails and other frame damage so was ideal for the project. Mods duly done, the bike was reassembled, but wouldn't start. Crank seals I thought, so I whipped a new set in. Still no joy. To cut a long story short I stripped and reassembled the bike (I didn't split the cases though, or lift the barrel) till I was sick of the sight …

  19. Looked over for some info about turning a Model 212 into a trials bike. Judging by catalog photos, the frames look very similar. Are the triples different? Other than the tank/seat, and guessing the motor, any major differences? Want to turn this into a slow bike, but if it's too much work, will leave it a trail bike. Thanks for any info/help you can provide!
