So my new 4RT has come with braktec Master and slave cylinders fitted for both the front and rear brakes. I am assuming hay these are not fitted as standard to a normal out of the box 4RT? My question is relating to the free play in both levers, that is the vertical movement up and down, not the travel of the lever in normal use of the brake and clutch operation. So I would like to know if they all have so much free play? I can only describe it as wobble, it seems to be too much to me, perhaps about 25-30mm of vertical free play in each lever? I assume they have a brass bushing as the bearing inside the actual lever, but do they perhaps need spacers on…

Hi Guys Just treated myself to a used 2008 4rt and will be going through it before riding it ... so where should I start ... are there any "must do's" with older Montesa's and whos the people to get the parts from . I've no manual but managed to download one for a 2005 ... ok ... yes/no ? Oils , whats best and how much ... Plus , one thing I never understand it has the black frame which is worn in several area's and overall makes the bike look a bit tatty ... I run a vapourblasting business and am considering getting rid of the black to leave a satin finished Ali' ... whats you're thoughts ! ANY information you can throw at me is appreciated and thanks in advance ..…

I'm looking at a used Cota 315. Could anyone out there give me any advise on it's ride charachteristics/quirks? For instance; I think the GGs steer a little bit better than the Shercos, but the Shercos seem to be more reliable. Are there any traits good or bad that I should consider? Thanks

Hi all, I'm in the process of restoring a Cota 200, starting first with splitting the crankcase to replace main bearings. After removal of cylinder head & barrel, I've noticed there's some light scoring on the bore and piston skirts. Anyone know the best place to get a rebore/piston kit done in the UK? Much appreciated!

The saga continues. Essentially the bike runs very well but is just hard to start, especially when warm. (Very hard to start... Making her un-usable.) Having bought a flywheel puller and re-adjusted the timing to be spot on, replaced the plug and condensor and consistently observe a good spark I am happy that my problem is not the ignition. The air filter is also in good order. The only remaining problem is fuel, I believe the engine to be flooding itself, the plug is very wet upon inspection after trying to start her. Could this because the mixture's too rich? Can I resolve this by lowering the needle on the throttle slide? Or am I barking up the wrong tree do you t…

Been out with Dad all day today, hes almost going back to the 2 stroke lately due to stalling problems on the bike. Two big get offs for him today due to the bike stalling just at the point of getting back on the throttle. Not sure if this problem is something a 4 stroke will do or just perculiar to his bike or riding style. First off up onto a big slab slopping down hill, gets up on it, blips the throttle to go down just at the point of throwing the body forward and it stalls, chucks him straight over the bars and down the slab. Second, tight turn onto a slopping rock with a 2 foot gap to another, biggish drop to the right. He bridges the gap blips to go and it stalls ju…

Is there much difference between a 250 to a 260 bike? Rode a 260 Repsol last week and couldn't tell a lot, but the 300RR was definitely lighter on the front (TECH alloy forks) and was smoother

I was given a Montesa Enduro 250 and now I’m trying to find a service manual for it. So far I’m coming up empty. Any help with anything would be much appreciated. I also looking for things to avoid or tips in general about this bike. Also I’m curious about the numbers stamped on the frame if anyone’s well versed in them.

Put my 2006 4RT away a few weeks ago running. Would not start today. Tore into it a bit and discovered it had spark and would fire with starter fluid. Further investigation reveled that the pump did not go on with 12V dc. No noise, no fuel no nothing. Before I send someone a whole pile of $$$ is there anything Im missing? Jason

Just finished fitting my dual map programmable throttle body (turned out to be a nightmare to get to, air box off, exhaust off, injector out), and sorted out a few other issues with the bike! And hallelujah it started! (not quite sure why I'm so surprised, it is a Honda after all) but yeah it was a big achievement for me (first bike I've had to look after myself and only done oil and filter changes so far-young lad) Problem is, I don't know what to do next, I miss having something to work on! Any little mods like the removal of the tip sensor the I can do? Also on little bit of a campaign to get the weight down a bit (not because I think it'll make me a better ride…

Good evening guys and gals, Just yesterday I acquired my first motorbike, something that was bound to happen eventually with my girlfriend and her family being motorbike crazy. I'm a car technician by trade and have never tinkered with a motorbike so it should be an interesting experience. So yesterday I had a text from a friend who rides bikes, offering me a 'free trials bike', he sent a photo and I didn't know what I was looking at particularly, apart from a bike in bits but I asked if all the bits were there and he said yes so I thought sod it why not. Popped round and picked it up, didn't inspect anything as it was free... He said he brought it 4 years…
