Guys, I started a thread asking about cleaning the tailpipe and got side tracked a bit. Can anyone look at these photos for me and see if that intake side port opening looks damaged or modified or normal? in some way? It looks to me that one side of the opening is lower than the other, and somehow it might have been caused by someone in there with a grinder? The right side of the image is much shinier than the left side as well, so I don't know why that would be the case. All I did was wash the whole jug with water and a solvent and I did not scrub this area on the right any more than I did on the left side. So something has been in there either with a lot…

Hello I have a TY175 twinshock with standard forks and am looking at moving up to something a bit better. I know I can go to the TY250 forks but I was wondering if anyone else had gone a step further with modern forks from say a Gas Gas or similar. I've read that 38mm is popular? Any suggestions or experiences? What bike could I take them from TY250 FORKS A bit better Using standard TY175 wheel brakes etc MODERN FORKS A lot better Do I use the whole front end inc wheel etc or just the forks and yokes If using the TY175 wheel, do i have to have a new spindle made? I need to retain the basic look and the drum brake of course Thanks for any help Owen

Guys, Does anyone know if this rear brake lever is off of another model (factory bend) or is it something anyone can do with a propane torch and a vice? Notice how the pegs are in the rear position and the brake lever is still easily accessable?

Just took my heavily modified 78 175 out for its maiden run yesterday. Thrilled with how it runs and performs now but the chassis performance has gone all wrong. Hoping to get a new gameplan to make it work like it should. Steering has become incredibly heavy and floppy from side to side. I've lengthened the swingarm as per standard 1.5 inches +/-, lowered and moved rearward the pegs and moved top shock mounts forward about 2", running 13.4" betors. These mods are proven successful by many others already. Can somebody with an original TY 250 A tell me what the stock length of the dipstick is? I'm getting 133 mm for just the metal rod below the plastic handle???? The part number on CMSNL is 3221536300, but on there it looks like a plastic one. - I want to make sure I have the right quantity of gearbox oil in there. Thanks for your help!

I have recently removed the flywheel weight from my TY250 Twinshock and went out on it this morning to try it out. What a difference! Much more responsive. It pulls right off the bottom of zero revs and I can now ride a section that requires 2nd gear somewhere in the section and ride the whole section in second, without having to think about changing up. This is where it is most noticeable as it will now pull second instead of dying if I'm not revving it enough, as before. Also I've had to turn the tickover screw out 1/2 a turn now the engines not dragging the extra weight around. The weight (and bolts) weighed 750 grams. The flywheel now weighs 1650 grams with it r…

Hi all, My mate has just bought an old TY250.....(THINK it is a 1983)..will try to post a piccy. ANY info would be very usefull. Like what fuel to oil mix is best. How much fork oil is needed. How much gearbox oil is needed etc. Thanks in advance for any help

I had the TY out today riding around the yard and it smokes pretty bad.The more throttle you give it the more it pours out white smoke and it will not clear out.The gas was mixed at 32:1 with a freshly cleaned and oiled filter.It,s only the second time that I,ve had it out since buying it back from a friend,but I know it didn,t smoke like this before. I,m thinking that it could be a primary side crank seal? Could it be worn rings? Too much oil on the filter or the fuel/oil mix?It does sit and idle good and I had no problems riding over logs behind the shed.On the plus side,I think that it killed off most of the mosquitos in the yard.

Hello friends, Having read on here about the modifications people do to the weight of the flywheel to affect performance, could someone comment if my flywheel has been adjusted or if this is standard? it appears to have some holes drilled in it and doesn't look exactly like the pic in the parts manual. i know the previous owner was serious enough to swap the front 14 tooth sprocket to a 12 so I'm curious as to whether the flywheel was modified also or is standard. And would someone be kind enough to briefly recap the difference between a heavier or lighter flywheel and the effect it has on the bikes performance? (I'm still a little unsure) with many thank…

hi there yam fans i have just purchased a ty250 twinshock , and i thought it was a standard ty but on checking the frame numbers i have been told it is a john shirt model but the tank is just like a standard ty am i right in thinking that some majesty's had a standard tank? . most ones i have seen have the coffin shaped type any help would be appreciated . thanks ZARKOFF.

I ride a modern Trials bike and want to get a TY to ride and set up our vintage sections. I found a 175 that has some mods done and looks pretty good. But the owner has a couple 250's that are not as nice. He put the 250 wheels and tires on the 175 because the tires where nice Michelin's and cut a spacer to line things up. This also means that it now has a dished sprocket on it. My questions are things like, are they heavier ? will the dished sprockets get hard to get in the future ? Is this something anybody else has done. I think it is silly he did it. maybe the spokes and rims are better or something else. but should I skip it or not be worried. I know …

Hi, I' am rebuilding my twinshock TY, this is a long time project, whenever I have time I do something for the bike .... Anyway the airbox of the TY 125 / 175 is very tiny it has more likely the size of a can of sprats then a airbox for a 175 to 200cc motor. A larger one should improve power output. Can any one tell me where I may get a larger capacity airbox for my TY, also some stories / how to ... for custom made air boxes would be very nice too. Many Thanks Patrik

Hi guys, probably been asked 100 times before, but having problems getting my TY175 started and staying running. Bought it to fix up and guy said it ran before being left on the shed for a while! Will start with "start ya *******" down the bore or neat petrol), but wont keep running! sometimes get 2 turns round the garden before it blurs out! Its driving me mental! Guys, Need your opinion. I still have time to specify what happens to my "new" cylinder from my TY 250A. It won't get to Millenium Technologies for another few days. And originally I was going to have it Nikasil plated, But now I am wondering if that is still a good idea? It will get a new Wossener piston too unless there is some reason not to?? The TY 250 barrel has a cast iron liner. But the cylinder is still the old air cooled type. There will be more heat expansion on this setup than would be the case with a water cooled cylinder, and it's a 2 stroke of course, but what are the advantages of a Nikasil lining for this application?
