Can I use these bearings on the crankshaft? They are the same size but does it matter that they are sealed? I have to heat them to fit them back in to the case. I have started to re assembly the engine that came in the basket case of parts. It appears that almost all of the parts are there except for a few. The other question that I have is if the kickstart assembly looks like it is set up properly? I think I have but this if my first time doing a rebuild. Thanks for the help Sunny

Hi All, Having had a welding repair done successfully to the clutch casing on my M190 Sherpa a wee while ago I undertook to get the same thing done on my new project (M121 Pursang). (Bultaco fetish? ) Unfortunately the alloy on the Pursang behaved rather badly; I understand that some of the alloys can be a bit porous and absorb oil over the years and this flares up and makes a mess of the weld? Anyway the welding proved problematic and it was a much bigger job than it should have been. It appears that the heat has warped the edge of the casing and as you can see from the photo I now have a small gap, probably about 1mm deep and 5-6cm long on the bottom of the casing. …

Dear All, I'm now at the stage of putting my Frontera back together. I've got one of the Electrex electronic units and am too embarassed to ring them yet again as to how to set up the timing! I have their info sheet but I still can't work it out. The Bultaco manual says static timing should be 2.4-2.6 mm BTDC, that's static timing. The Electrex unit automatically advances above 4,000 rpm. The Electrex sheet says that 2.4mm BTDC equates to 22:30' degrees BTDC on the flywheel and suggests you use a strobe to set the engine (i.e. when running) to this. So engine running set to 2.4 mm BTDC, engine static 2.4mm BTDC. SO where's teh advance gone? DO they mean that you run the…

Just took possession of my new 199B project today. Always had an itch to scratch when it came to the 340, 6 speed Sherpa's. So after nearly a quarter of a century "looking out" for one, I need look no longer. Yeah, there is lots to be done, but heaps of new ideas to try out. Electronic ignition, Dellorto or Mikuni carb, what suspension set up will I go for etc, etc..... Will keep you all updated on here on my progress

So the road to Robregordo starts here and now. Dug the old 199b out and started to begin fettling ready for Robregordo next year. Now as previously mentioned somebody in the dim and distant past fitted an Amal Mk2 to her and i've never liked the running with it fitted. So going to fit a new carb but which? Ruled out the Bing as too many people say it's crap. The Mikuni or the Dellorto seems the way to go. A lot of the Spanish lads had them fitted i noticed at Robregordo this year then again i've also heard good reports about the Mikuni. I had one fitted to a Bultaco a long long time ago and seem to remember it worked well. They are both roughly the same price so what is…

Hi, I have a Sherpa 340, which I'am rebuilding, the bike is in a let's call it good condition beside of some parts. One of the main issues are the side cases where some alumium of the embelms are broken off, (can be fixed with fluid / kned metal). My concerns are the impacts that are visible and caused cracks on both side cases. I searched already E-Bay, dealers worldwide for gettimg replacement cases, but did not found any. Here are some pic's of the cases outside: Now the problem inner sides, (the cracks to the clutch side are not so good visible (only one of three!): As visible the case structure on both sides is weakend a lot. I could by a second bike …

Here is a picture of my brand new Sherpa T. My Dad called me about a year ago and said a friend was selling a Bultaco in mint condition. So off I went with cash in hand. When I got there it was far from mint. But it was all there. Loaded it in my truck and let it sit in my garage for 6 months. It took about a year to restore. New paint everywhere. A lot of polishing (on the bike). A lot of headaches mainly with the swing arm. My wife seemed really impressed with the results Oh well maybe my friends will like it. Critisism allowed this is my first restore. Oh crap im turning into my Dad.

Hi guys, Started to do a few jobs on the bike I purchased a few months ago. I only want it to work, I'm not looking for a show bike... Brakes are non existent, to that end I removed the back wheel, sprocket and backplate. The hub is a bit of a horror story, the bearing on the sprocket side is a rattling fit despite the numerous centre punch dots rained upon it, liner has a big lip of probably 2 to 3 mm and one of the bolts holding the sprocket on has been opened out to M10 or thereabouts. I can repair the bolt holes, I can ally weld and bore the bearing diameter but the liner will be a pain. Anyone have a maximum diameter for the rear drum? I'm ho…

Just wondered cos i have a spare front end from an OSSA gripper languishing in the corner of the shed and one of the main things that puts me off riding the 199B is the orrible feel of the tiller steering so just wondered if anybody had tried non leading axle forks? Using the Ossa yokes as well would also get rid of the tiller effect which feels very strange. Funny thing is in their day i dont seem to remember it bothering me but it does now.

What would you recommend as a good shock absorber for a 199? I'm not a serious competitor so don't need the latest and greatest, just something reasonable with a reasonable price. The Betor Experts on it now were fine when they were in good condition but now they're barely functional. And what spring rate for an 80kg rider?

Thanks for all of the suggestions, help and personal messages offering assistance. I have got the cases back together. I heated the right side in the kitchen oven when the wife was out and it slipped right on without even using a rubber hammer. I have now started to assemble the ignition/flywheel, the gearshift etc.... I just need to get a few new things a seal, a lock nut for the kickstart spring holding nut ( is that avaliable?), the four long studs to hold the cylinder and head, a new set of rings (which i have to figure out what size they are), a holding washer for the sprocket, so really not all that bad considering it came to me as a basket of parts that changed …

Hello, I'm fitting a new piston kit to my 159 350 and I have had to fit 3 base gaskets to get the piston height correct. Is this normal? It's a mahle piston. I've also had to machine 2mm from the exhaust side of the skirt as well.My bultaco dealer said I may have to modify the piston. So I just thought I'd ask if anyone else has had to carry out these mod's while fitting a new piston kit. Thankyou

Hi All, Just aquired a Bultaco 198-A I think? to restore. I was told by the seller that the bike has been in a shed for 30 years [And it looks like it]. I am after confimration of which model I have got and a few other questions. The frame Number is RB 198 03580-A Engine number is RM 198 03580-A There are no bottom frame tubes but a factory looking alloy bash plate fitted. Also the rear frame tube is missing and looks as if it is an original alteration. It looks like the 199A Bultaco on the In motion Bike ID page. I will be looking for a Rear Wheel and Brake Plate as there was an unknown wheel fitted very badly in the bike. I wil…
