Gas Gas

  1. Now this is a curly one, after issues with faulty bottom end bearings, for some reason my the brass pressure relief valve beside the screw in radiator filler has started weeping, stops when fan comes on, i took cap off and it had like a carbon build up on the base and a bit of the thread of the main cap, also the relief valve was covered with gunk, not bad but a bit. I know its two stroke, BUT could the o'ring on the head be allowing pressure into the cooling system ?This is only recently happened, and it seems to coincide with a bit of detonation under throttle. I have dropped the needle 1 to lean it a bit, and will run in comp tomorrow. I did not when idling bike there…

I have just put a x11 competition tyre on my bike and had it set around 3 or 4 pound pressure but at a trial on sunday the rear wheel was still sliding around a lot, i know this weather i should expect it to slide around but it seemed worse than the tyre i took off which was a irc, the reason i changed the tyre was the irc spun around on the rim and let all of the air out so i thought it will probably happen again, time for a new one, i have noticed the walls of the new tyre seem stiffer than the other one so can anyone who uses the same tyre tell me how low they have their rear tyre, i am just over 11 stone and at 4 pound pressure the new tyre doesn't seem spread out mu…

I've been searching on sag settings in many threads and now I'm very confused. Many people are recommending this article by Jon: http://www.gasgas.com/Pages/Technical/trials-suspension-tips.html. The strange thing is that Jon says to adjust the race sag for the front forks to 1/6 of the total travel, but almost every thread in this forum says that 1/3 is the measure to go after. It's a big difference between 1/6 and 1/3, what value should I try to adjust the forks to? The total travel is 177 mm and the race sag is 43 mm with zero preload, somewhere between 1/6 and 1/3. Is that a good value, or should I adjust it? Another confusing thing is that my rear spring seems too …

Hi, been having a flick through as I'm a newbie, not only to this site but trials in general. I've been to see a few trials and joined the ACU as well as a local club. I've got hold of a bike, a 1996 Gas Gas 250 Contact. It's rough around the edges but was blooming cheap! Only problem is, I can't get the bugger started! I've started at the carb, cleaning all the gunk, sand and rubbish out. Checked there's a spark which there is. Cleaned all the rubbish and mud from all I can see wiring wise. But still can't even get a splutter. With the plug out I set the engine to bottom dead centre (screw driver down the barrel) and squirted in some easy start (straight into the bar…

I have a 2023 GG 300TXT. The manual says spoke torque is 26 inch pounds for rear and 18 inch pounds for front. Most dirt bikes and other bikes I have owned are spec'd between 40 and 50 inch pounds I checked the spokes yesterday on my GG and they are much tighter then what the book called for. Am I misunderstanding something? Any and all thoughts are appreciated.

Hi, At Addingham on Sunday I took a good look at the '05 GasGas bikes. I've just sold my Mont and in a few months will probably be buying a new bike, however, one thing that struck me not having looked in any detail at any of the "Pro" bikes these past few years is the exhaust. Certainly on the '05 bikes the front pipe seems VERY exposed. Is the '04 the same? I might consider a 2nd hand '04 instead. This is a show-stopper for me if you compare it to the Sherco there is just no comparison. PS. GasGas clutch seems heavy? Ian.

  10. I got my first trials bike. It is a 2020 Gas Gas TXT250. The bike seems great except when shifting from 4th gear to 5th gear. There is a bad gear grinding noise every time I shift from 4th to 5th unless the RPM's are extremely low. Like 25% of normal. I know gears 1-4 are low ratio and gears 4-5 are high ratio so the jump between 4th and 5th is a big step. It seems that you would want to be able to shift out of 4th at a higher (or mid) RPM to make the jump to 5th easier. I need to be lugging down in 4th to be able to shift into 5th without getting the grinding noise. Is this normal? The dealer is telling me that it is normal. Thanks, Steve

Hi Its me again. Just got the engine together for the 4`th time, and it is still burning gear oil. The third time i was able to drive about two hours before it began smoking but this time it was straight away. I can not understand why it does this. Everything is looking 100% right. There is new bearings and new seals, and of course new middle gasket every time. I have had experienced mechanics both GasGas and other brand specialists confirming that it looks OK. Lets say i pull it all apart again. Out with everything. Bearings, seals and all. Can someone please go through the mounting prosedure step by step for me, explaining what part and how You install it. Maybe the…

  14. Hi Guys, I am not long after buying a few project bikes/parts cheep! and after a few hours in my bike shed I was able to build a 97 or 98 (forget again) gas gas JTX 270 from one pile of parts, and after it was built I clocked up about 12hrs of riding time on it! in this time it was very well behaved, started first time everytime! and a lovely bike to ride! but now after a few weeks parked up, when I start it, it wont start and keeps blowing spark plugs! I have checked the color of the plug a few days ago and it was carbon fouled, and when I place a new/other plug in it, it runs ok (well little rough at full throttle) but then next day same thing, kick it over it star…

Hello, been creeping the forum for awhile now and was hoping you guys could help me work through an issue! 07 gas gas txt pro, bought this year, bike was like new with original tires, been having a blast using it to poach mountain biking and hiking trails. Brought it with me on a trip and had to do a creek crossing, it was a little deeper than expected and the bike died when I got to the other side, kicked it over for 30 min and finally went. Then I had to go back across, well soon as I hit the water same issue. This time I kicked the poor thing over for an hour and got it started, was running terrible , misfiring etc. Now it won’t start. Performed the follow…

  17. Started by funtrials,

I'm considering either a 2008 Gas Gas 250, or 280, or 300, or a (used, or do they make new ones?) "Raga" model. I weigh around 200 lbs. (91 kg), and am in the expert class (well I WAS, before I quit years ago....but hopefully after a few months I'll be back in form.) I've tried an older 250 and a 2007 280, but it's kind of hard to really TELL what I'd like better after just a short ride. I'm not concerned about the price differences. My question is: what factors/differences do YOU GUYS see between these 4 bikes for me!? Thanks. Quite a knowledgeable group of riders on this forum! FYI: "Search" didn't work for me.

  19. Hi, i'm desperate for help, I got water in my gearbox oil so replaced the seal. On inspection the shaft was worn so replaced that to, yet after 15 min running the oil contaminates with water again! the coolant level hasn't seemed to have dropped. Is there anything obvious i'm missing? In fairness I haven't replaced the O ring seal on water pump so don't know if that is letting water in when I ride in the wet/ wash the bike? could this be a cause? I'm running out of ideas now so any help would be great. cheers, Al
