Hi, this is my first post here. I have most of an M116 350 Alpina which I got for $100 20 years ago and I have been slowly gathering up some of the missing parts. The main things I still need are a piston and con rod kit. While pistons are available new, they are quite expensive. Occasionally on ebay I see listings for NOS pistons from other models such as 360 Astro, Frontera, etc. Are any of these suitable? I believe I am currently at standard bore but as the cylinder is quite rusty it will likely need a rebore in any case. Alternatively are there any more common Japanese model pistons which can work? Probably I should just save up and get the proper thing, but any sugg…

Hey everyone. Brand new here and picked up my first Bultaco. It runs and is about 75% original, however knowing this is a trial forum, I am looking to go the other way. I would like to change the gearing some to make it more of a "desert sled", less low-geared trials. I know the 71 Alpina is basically the same bike with higher gearing. Can anyone tell me how interchangeable the gearbox is? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks! Fenix

Hi all, in the process of rebuilding the 191 engine.I've just gone through all the packs of seals and "O" rings to identify them all and have a couple of queries. The "O" ring set ( or the O rings with full gasket set ) comprises of 5 rings. The two large ones are No.54 on the engine illustration in the parts book (260-011) ,the smallest is No.20 on the gearbox illustration (111-028-1) which leaves two 25mm ones. One of these is No.17 on the gearbox illustration (111-025-1) but i can't see what the other one is for.......probably missing something obvious! The other problem is with an oil seal ( part No. 160-031, 14x20x3 ). This is No.45 on the gearbox illustra…

Hi all! I've searched for hours and didn´t get to a point, that's why I'm bothering you asking for help. I have s Sherpa T 250 model 190 (1977 I supose). It is matching numbers but my "problem" is that these numbers are 8 digits instead of 9 digits (RM-190***90 / RB-190***90). I've checked a serial at the left crankcase that is 112-10Y019, what I think confirms that is a 250cc Sherpa/Alpina engine. Does anyone know why it has these 8 digits if it is supposed to have 9??? Thanks in advance for any response.

Last fall I cracked the primary cover on my M98 Sherpina when I hit a rock at a trial. Luckily I was able to repair the cover, but ever since I’ve been a bit nervous about going through rocky sections. The standard skidplate, or bash plate, on the M98 is just some a perforated sheet between the frame rails. It’s made contact with a few objects over the years, but it offers zero protection for the primary and flywheel covers. I’ve seen a few homemade skidplates, so I decided to try and make my own. The material I selected was a 17” x 14” x 5/16” (432mm x 356mm x 8mm) cutting board purchased from Target for $15. Originally I wanted to use 1/4” (6mm) UHMW and may still…

Hello All, I'm hoping for some suggestions on how to proceed with the exhaust on my latest project... I'm presently in the midst of an early M80 Sherpa T rebuild and am striving for original appearance yet with increased performance in the effort. I had one of these years ago and, like many, replaced the triangular muffler with an "S" pipe to a modern aftermarket spark arrestor which did perform better than stock but, to my eye, didn't look nearly as good - certainly not period correct, anyway. I eventually sold her to a friend to entice him into riding vintage trials with me and have missed the bike ever since. Such a beautiful tank design - truly a classic. …

Just about to order electrexworld ignition for the Sherpa ( 191 ). I don't need DC lighting system but it says the basic one is available in 6v or 12v. I'm embarrassed to say I'm not sure which it is, I can't see anything on it to suggest either.I has the Femsa 4 magnet flywheel which is about 98mm inside diameter.Presumably early ones were 6v, did they change to 12v....if so when?

Just rebuilt a pair of wheels for the 191.Polished the hubs, got Mike Danby to re-line them.Inmotion supplied Morad rims but I had Central Wheel Components supply spokes.I have Michelin H/duty tubes and IRC tyres + security bolts ( all from in motion) but the rims aren't drilled for the security bolts.Has anyone drilled these? Would put it opposite the valve but anything else I should or shouldn't do?

I refurbished my Sherpa over the winter. No changes to the engine which started well and ran ok before and after initially the full nut and bolt refurb. I’ve not had chance to use due to lockdown, but recently struggled starting her. She fired but died and when eventually she ran I found she was running backwards which I know they can do sometimes. I’ve check all the fuel side out (new fuel as well) and reset points and timing, setting to 2.6mm BTDC (as advised by InMotion) with dial gauge etc. to the Bultaco method (which it was before). Spark is good etc. But starting remains a real problem and on the one occasion she did run, it was backwards! I’m a bit of a loss as no…

Desperate to get the Sherpa finished in time for the Bultaco Club UK do at the end of July. I still need an inlet manifold ( never had one as bike came in bits ) part Number 158.10-029 and the original swingarm isn't straight so i could do with that as well ( not 100% sure but think it's 159.03-002 ) if you know of anyone who has spares lying about please ask around. Any help would be much appreciated.

I have inherited a Bultaco engine with the number RM-19802534-A. It is a 250 engine but I have no idea if the 'RM' at the beginning of the serial number has any significance. Any help would be appreciated!

I’ve just bought a Bultaco Sherpa Model 49 to renovate. On searching for information on this model , which seems sparse people talk about different models of the 49. Were there several models of the 49, what were the differences.

Proud owner of newly acquired 71 Bultaco Sherpa T 250 (seller said it was a '71 but I have not fully verified yet) First question! It's about the petcock, which I think the seller gave me incorrect info about...After some testing I believe the pic below is the "off" position (lever at 3 oclock, aka, pointing at right hand side). Is that correct? And "on" would be straight down (6 oclock) and reserve pointing at left hand side (9 oclock) ?

I'm sure this has been asked loads of times, but, what petrol/ 2t oil ratio should I use on my Sherpa 250 (1979)? People are telling me I dont need to use anywhere near as much as years ago because 2t oil is so much better these days. Does 40/1 sound sensible? Any guidance appreciated, thanks.
