Montesa

I've never seen parts so hard to find online as the Montesa's I must say! I can't find an All Balls kit or anything. Hoping someone here knows the bearing numbers on the 4RTs for rear and front wheels, I think I found that they are 6004-2RS but says to double check your bearings first, before I go pulling anything apart does anybody know offhand?

I have a 2107 Cota 300RR, and whenever I kick her over the lever hits the footpeg. I put new pegs on and the lever is damaging them a bit, as well as the lever itself is getting chewed up. It seems impossible to stop the kick before the peg. I saw someone else on here had put a rubber piece on his. I have put a bit of rubber hose on it for now to help protect them, but the rubber is causing the lever to get stuck on the peg now. Is this normal for these bikes, and is there a solution? my 315 has an annoying crack/banging noise on full extension fork seals are good and checking the oil levels they seem fine as per the manual, oil was recently changed. The manual does mention in the right fork section a "stopper rubber" I don't see it in any of the pictures or the parts diagram, any ideas ? I also see that the left fork has a "rebound spring", this could be adding to my noises, do these generally give any bother ? I see it in the parts book but unless I am wrong its doesnt list it with a part number. before a full striping I would like parts at hand or at least located as I dont want the bike off the road for long and a…

Hoping for a bit of advice, purchased a 2017 Cota 300RR this year and I notice it has a bit of a knock. I have several friends with Montesas and none seem to knock this loud. I have been told it's normal for them to knock a bit. I've checked valves and cam chain tension but it really sounds like a piston knock to me. I know she's got some hours on her. I suppose a video would be the best way to show you guys, I'll have to get one up here later on. I am concerned I'm going to damage something running it though, but I want to know if I'm going to need to do a piston soon. So my new 4RT has come with braktec Master and slave cylinders fitted for both the front and rear brakes. I am assuming hay these are not fitted as standard to a normal out of the box 4RT? My question is relating to the free play in both levers, that is the vertical movement up and down, not the travel of the lever in normal use of the brake and clutch operation. So I would like to know if they all have so much free play? I can only describe it as wobble, it seems to be too much to me, perhaps about 25-30mm of vertical free play in each lever? I assume they have a brass bushing as the bearing inside the actual lever, but do they perhaps need spacers on…

Hi all might be a daft question but didn’t want to start cutting/ disconnecting wires late at night. Simple job of headlight off to put a number board on, followed the two wires red and black from the light to under the tank (presumed I’d find a connector to just take a part) found the connector under a waterproof cover but seems to pick up a green wire ? Now just wondering what you disconnect to remove the front light ? Didn’t want to cut the wires any help ?

Hello, is someone here has any experience in racing XC or Hare Scramble with 70's Cota 247? I really like the design and the model of the Cota 247 and I have one (1970) for trials competitions only. I'm thinking to purchase anther one for the races above (I prefer the models with the gear lever on the left side). I was wondering if the Cota is up for the task. I would like to hear you opinions.

Hi there, last activities in the Bultaco section... but now talking about my latest Montesa. There is no sparc so I decided to take things off to simplify the lot. No lights, horn, switches ... and ended up with 4 cables comming from the engine... all pink, burgundy and puple cables gone (never seen that before 🙂) Now, I would expect the black going to the coil, the red from the lighting was to ground, but will be gone, once I managed to open up the little nut on the bracket... so I have a green, white and yellow left... on my Bultaco it is the green one to earth... for the Montesa I could not find anything to help me sorting things out yet. Any help welcom…

I’ve got a new, 1.5 hour Montesa 301. Bike has always been incredibly easy to start. 1-2 lazy kicks and it runs. I had the bike sat for some time running VP Trials fuel, no ethanol. Now coming back to use it, bike goes to start but barley idles on the first kick where it now struggles to stay running. It then takes many kicks before you can get it up and running again, once you get it going you need to crack the throttle to keep the rpm elevated slightly and then from there it runs flawlessly. Is it possible that I may need to swap a spark plug? Not sure what’s causing this with less than 2 hours on the bike.

Does anyone have a spare 4rt silencer kicking around in the back of the garage? I’ve folded mine in half tonight and could really do with one for the British Championship round on Sunday!! Thanks

Hi, I have a 349 white wonder which I've owned for about 4 years. It's tatty as hell but starts and rides well. I've not done much to it apart from registering it for road use, new crank seals, a new OKO carb and a new chain and sprockets to up the gearing so it's usable on the road, which is ineresting to say the least. I use it once, maybe twice, a year so I'm thinking of selling it unless it's worthless 'cos of condition. What do people think? Ideal project that someone will take my arm off for or piece of junk that's not woth its scrap value?

Hi, I just buy mint conditions 120 hours used Montesa 260 RT 2014. Bike working like new and when engine is cold it´s starts very easily, but after 30 minutes driving when engine is hot starting is nightmare. If i give little fuel straigth to throttle body engine start but running only few seconds. Then after 15-25 minutes waiting engine start and running like new. I already adjust idle speed to around 1850rpm, also i check throttle cable freeplay, then i reset ecu many times but nothing help:( Would someone help what I need to do next?

Hi all took the plunge & bought the apico dimpled clutch plates which I plan to fit next week sometime looking through the manual & at some previous topics & it looks as simple as remove the cover then the 6 bolts & springs remove existing plates oil up new plates & replace in correct order put bolts back in at 12 Nm cover on bleed if necessary I don’t need the clutch holding tool shown in the manual do I? Or is there a nut holding the clutch centre on? did this mod on a 315 about 15 years ago & don’t recall needing this tool, different bike obviously though & a long time ago! thanks in advance

what is the best way to strengthen the front fork (Cota 247 70'): increase oil level use heavier fork oil (current is 15w) use spacers replace spring (the most expansive solution)

I have a 2018 Montesa 300rr with the S3 electric start kit. Best investment ever. However the one thing I don't like about it is that I have to pull the starter motor off to check the motor oil. I've got it down to a science so its not a big deal/ Until tonight. I went to check the oil (good thing I did, it was low) so I started it up according to the manual to warm it up. I used the estart. No issues. Put the starter motor back on like normal, hit the button and it just spins, wont engage the flywheel. After a bunch of rooting around I figured out that the starter is spinning backwards. Anyone have any idea why it would do this? Everything is hooked up properly…

Hi guys, this old girl has popped up for sale up the road and, looks like I'll be the new owner. All there, up on it's toes, bit of cosmetics hopefully...ohh, those mudguards😀 It'll join my 1978 247C which is my first ever 'keeper' twin shock having owned an SWM320, TL125, and Bultaco 198B twice. The old 247C is light, nimble, small with a smoooooth and easy engine, we just get on if you get my drift. Always had a soft spot for Montys. I know the 348 was really a 305cc but compared to the 247C, a bigger bike, heavier and, I'm wondering a bike more suited for an expert rider...
