Show us your ty bike in any condition! MY TY IN RESTORATION AFTER JUST HAVING A RESPRAY

Hello, I bought this bike about a year ago to ride in Trials competition. Instead of just restoring it back to original condition, I wanted something that looked a little different, and this is my end result. I haven't touched the wheels yet, but I think I'm going to polish the hubs, anodize the rims black, and lace them up with stainless spokes and nipples. Hi there I have a ty 175 with a standard exhaust I have seen aa 175 with a ali center exhaust but with no back box I have found them on jk hirst but are they any good They look a lot lighter than the standard one fitted http://www.jkhirst.co.uk/acatalog/Rear_Silencers.html regards Neil

OK how longs a piece of string. Bought a standardish TY250 twinshock off ebay as a "project" standby bike for when the others are W.I.P. and i want a ride. OK shes not pretty but doesnt owe me a lot and mostly all there. Now i've measured the wheelbase and it's 50" there's 13.5" ground clearence and it rides and steers fine. So is it worth the hassle and effort of cutting and shuting the frame to lift the engine a la Majesty?

I recently acquired (and tonight, got running!) an 84 TY250 mono from Canada, but I'm in the states. It was brought over for use at someone's camp, and has clearly seen better days. But: it seems to have good compression, is mechanically in decent shape, and looks like crap. I've got some exhaust leaks to sort out, and it seems the muffler is full of muddy old oil. Is there a way to clean it out? Take it off, flush with gas and let air dry for a few days maybe? I'm not sure, and not willing to try that yet. I didn't see any convenient cleanout plates. Hi all ... I was just out in my shop with my boys talking trials bikes ... As some of you may know I just did a ground up on a 74 ty80 that I obtained for my youngest son ... And of course my middle child (2yrs older) parked his 89?xr 100 after he WAY overrevved it and got it to bend some valves ... But this thought came into my feeble mind ! What if I used the XR wheels and forks and built my own whitehawk TY80 ! I'd have to lengthen the swingarm abit to clear the 16' back wheel , and a little creative bearing application and the forks should work ... Well, I manageged to find me a Serow today, should make as good of a trials bike as anything once I build a new frame! Not sure how they will think of the electric start in the sections? I just think of is as my big bore Scorpa project! Yet, I need to loose the front disc to become ITSA legal! Jay, watch out! Anyone have any shocks?

I've got a 74 Yamaha TY 250 that my best friend owned and used to ride frequently. Then he sold it to a mutual friend of ours last summer and it sat for a year. I got the bike after he passed away last Labor Day Weekend. When my best friend had the bike, we put a new condenser on it and it seemed to run fine. He did have to change the spark plug fairly often because his plug would be fouled out. It seemed to have a weak spark. Would this be a problem with a bad coil or just the points need to be changed? I cleaned the carb a couple of weekends ago and it has fuel getting to the spark plug, but I don't have any spark at the spark plug. Is there a place to change it o…

What are the main differences between the 2 bikes ?? In terms of - Handling Finding grip Riding position Likes/Dislikes Is the Yamaha better built than the Scorpa Are the motors exactly the same in terms of power/porting Was the TYZ a dog or is still a good bike today I've never ridden either, just like the look of the TYZ TYZ Frame looks as if it shares some similarities with the later Cota 315R ......Does it?? One of my TY175s has been a test horse for modifications since I got it in 1976. The latest change I have made is to lengthen the swingarm by 45mm. The frame on this bike has already been changed in a way that has produced a steeper steering head angle but retained the standard wheelbase. It also has TY250B forks and a 205cc motor. The wheelbase before the swingarm extension was 48.5 inches, which is quite short for a trials bike. I felt it might be nicer to ride with a longer wheelbase and with the weight bias further forwards, so I decided to lengthen the swingarm to achieve this. Hi all, My mate has just bought an old TY250.....(THINK it is a 1983)..will try to post a piccy. ANY info would be very usefull. Like what fuel to oil mix is best. How much fork oil is needed. How much gearbox oil is needed etc. Thanks in advance for any help

Anyone out there know if the brake hub/sprocket carrier on a '79 TY175 is made from Magnesium. I managed to get some gasket remover on there and it peeled the silver paint off from there pretty sharpish. It looks like aluminium (hand sanded to get the paint to stick?) I know the backing plate is. Any recommendations.. just polish and leave be? Don't want to strip and re-lace the spokes. Thanks. Jonny.

Just wondered what oil you were all using in your gearbox ? What weight and what brand ? Fully synthetic or mineral ? I use ATF fluid in my Beta to good effect and was wondering if anybody uses this in their TY 175? All opinions welcome Gareth

Can anyone tell me if there is anyone doing the 200 conversion kit for the 175, also is it a worthwhile thing to do to a 175, I have had conflicting reports some say it's good others that it makes bike peaky and less tractable, I know it can depend on how well set up it is. Help/pointers much appreciated.

I just wondered what some of the engine mods people do to the TY250 engine. I rode another TY a while back and it had unreal power from idle and pulled like a train. That engine pulled like a modern engine and I just woudered what type of modifications had been made to the motor. I have had mine a while now and sold the modern bike so I am only going to ride the TY. It suits me and I love riding it but I think I am ready to see what can be done with one. Anybody taken thier TY past stock? I just picked up another frame last weekend and am going to put some Hebo pegs on it while moving them down and back. Then I might have the frame powder coated. Hi iv never rode a trials bi,e but have been dirtbiking seince I was little. Im about to pick up 1976 ty 175 and was wondering what there capable of handeling. Oviously this somthing Im going to have to figure out by riding it but I dont want to brake the old girl the first day out. Most of the riding im going to be doing is real steep rocky and technical but theres a couple spots Im concerned about like some 2 to 3 foot ledges. Will she be cool if I huck it off or should I go slow and drop the nose down befor letting the ass falow. How about going back up can these bikes get up a 2 3 foot ledge. Pleas fill me in thanks.

Here are a few photos that some of you may find interesting. I am sure that most of you know that in the early 1980s Majesty produced two works bikes fitted with works Yamaha 250cc, OW10 engines (from the 1973 cantilever bike), one for Mick Andrews and the other for John Hulme. the bike that Mick andrews rode is well documented but Johns bike is not, so for the first time in nearly thirty years here are photos of Johns bike. It is now up and running and ready to be restored after being stored in boxes inside my old Hen house all of that time (1988) the bike is in original condition apart from the brake lever, tyres, cables, and paint.
