Twinshock

  1. Started by herman,

Greetings all! Ater months of waiting, my KT 250 project is about to get under way! I'm starting with 2 semi complete bikes that I'm certain will be enough for 1 rider. As the bike is going to be ridden, I'm planning on rattle can painting the tank (unless I get my powder coat setup done), as well as painting the frame to match the tank. I saw a great photo of one on this site that featured a lay down suspension setup for the rear. A buddy of mine can do this, so my question would be where to locate the upper mount and how much gusseting? I'm thinking about positioning the mount so that the stock length shock will be appx. a half an inch longer thinking tis will help th…

I know that because of my vast lack of knowledge I might get beat up on this one.It seems to me that the best and most reliable twin shock to grow old with would be a finely modded TY175 bored to a 200.It has to be one of the cheapest to keep up to snuff and easiest to handle as age creeps in to the bones. The weather is rotten here,I,m waiting on parts and bored so I thought I,d try to stir up a topic.

Hi One question, i know this might sound a bit daft, but what actually constitutes a "twinshock" ? Let me explain. Just look at the Cotswold Majesty for example or choose your own. Here is a bike which undeniably is a "twinshock" (it has two rear shock absorbers) but it was made this century. So are twinshocks anything with two rear shocks? Do they have to be manufacturered before a certain date? Must they be aircooled? When we say manufactured which bits do we actually mean? After all there are many aftermarket frame kits around. Some replicas of the originals, some of works frames, some just very light and tidy. You see where i am going with this is why couldnt…

I am rebuilding a ty250a.I have only been riding trials since spring of 2018 but figured I would share my rebuild for all to injoy (or laugh at).I ride a 2015 GG txt pro but like vintage bikes. The ty250 was my 1st motorcycle I had in 1976 when my father purchased it for me.The deal was I would work in woods taking down tree's to pay him back.I had no idea it was a trials bike but rode the hell out of it.

Aftermarket footpeg location brackets and do it yourself footpeg relocating certainly is popular on vintage bikes currently used in competition. In general, how or what criteria determines the best footpeg front to rear location? Is the lowest possible position that kerps the fert safe best? While researching this, one company mentioned that going rearward with footpeg mounts is not always a benefit, it can reduce weight on the front tire and creates steering issues. Being specific, we will be modifying the setup on my riding buddies 72 OSSA MAR. The internet has many photos of these machines with footpegs anywhere from stock to 50mm x 50mm down. …

Do any of you old timers (like me ) have a slick new way to repair fiberglass gas tanks. I have a Bultaco Sherpa tank that is leaking along the lower seem and at two spots up near the frame head stock (looks like it was damage on either side by the handlebars). The tank was lined with a Kreem type liner product which obviously wasn't working. I managed to get all that out with an Acetone rinse. Fiberglass is a thermoset type product which means you can't add more fiberglass to it after is has set and get the same strength and bond as when it was orginally setup. So I am looking for info and suggestions that folks may have on repairing tanks maybe with some other type bon…

I picked up a 1975 TL-250 in outstanding condition. Still had original Bridgestone tyres and chain and sprockets, and not much wear at all. I always wanted to own a 4 stroke Trials bike and this fits the bill perfectly. I weight more than the bike and am physically strong so the reputed weight of the machine should be manageable. I'll find out later today when I do the intial test ride. The suspension works great and it has heavy duty shocks specific to my weight, and a little higher than stock for extra clearance and better turning. Sammy Miller got his big Ariel down from 325 lbs to 245 lbs. Now I have read stories that Ariel Ht-5 owners are managing to get the weigh…

Can any one please tell me the differences between the Cota model 348 & 349. Was the engine basically the same, what was the actual capacity of each one. I seem to recall the drive chain was on different sides but then again I may be thinking of a different model Montesa altogether. Did they have electronic ignition, timeline of production, the good the bad and the b awful that sort of thing. atb TRF

  13. Hi all,, I want to clear something up about twinshock trials bikes,,, I ride several different twinshocks, But the one i use in modern trials took me months to build and yes it has disc brakes, hydraulic clutch and a tubeless rear wheel, but at the end of the day is a twinshock.. and is a lot heavier than a modern bike, My point is when motorbikes were first used in trials they were just modded road bikes that people were trying to make as competetive as possible, So a lot of people get a lot of enjoyment from taking an old bike to the next level, and pushing the boundries of their bikes, But those of you who ride standard machines are constantly up in arms…

  19. See there's another "Majesty" on ebay. ref 190455109718 Now i am not the authority on Majestys but it looks just a std TY with a Majesty tank and repositioned shock top mounts to me. Plus would be a problem where to ride it as not eligable for ACU events due to the front disc. So Majesty officionados is it a Majesty or just Mutton dressed as Lamb

  20. Hi After reading so much on this subject am I correct in thinking if I was to run my 1980 349 on one of the following popular full & semi Synthetics I would be ball park ok? Castrol Power 1 full synthetic at 50: 1 Castrol A747 semi synthetic (with Castor) at 40:1 My preference would be to go semi for the standing time protection it has over a full Synthetic on internals but am I reading into things to much? Anyone ran either of the above long term and would like to give the benefit of their experiences? Advice please Thanks
