just want to tell you all the story of what happened to me tuesday night whilst practicing on my 06 sherco in suffolk. ever gone over the bars? i have many times but what happened this week must make me the unluckiest bugger on the plannet. i had been practicing all evening and was just about to make the decision to go home when i thought i would have one last go on a pile of wooden cable reals, the last real is laying on its side and you have to hop off with the front wheel up, this i did two or three times, but on the last time i didnt lift the front enough and over the bars i went. what happened next was freakish! the bike was balancing on its handlebars still ticki…

I am the first to admit that i have made the comment "come on thats not a5 ". You have to bite your tongue for the good of trials, observers are a rarity , plucked from volunteers in the car park . Some could be first timers ,so if you have a query see the clark of the course.Rant over.

Kudos to TRS for thinking outside the box and designing an electric start that drives the ignition side of the crank. My question is why do we need a separate starter motor at all? Current designs use a high speed starter motor geared down to provide starting torque which is engaged and then disengaged becoming dead weight when not in use. With the lighting coils we have an array of coils in a mass of spinning permanent magnets already. If used for a starter motor and then switched to generate power once the engine is started there is no mechanical interface and none of the animal is wasted as the saying goes. The concept of a motor/generator is old. Real old. Starter/gen…

This Sunday will mark the 89th Anniversary of the guns falling silent at 11am on the 11th hour of the 11th month to mark Armistice Day and the end of World War I. That day has since become known as Rememberance Sunday where, globally, we are supposed to fall silent at 11am for two minutes as a mark of respect to those who died so that way may live free lives. Whilst the ACU and many other organisations observe this silence, many individuals don't. I'd recommend all watch this video. Expand the text on the right hand side for the reasons behind it then watch and listen to the lyrics. Clickable link Is two minutes really too much to give up?

I've been playing about on my recently purchased TXT250. After riding a couple of 125s I've realised I am incompetent at trials and I'm performing significantly better on a 125 than my 250 so I've decided to advertise it for a swap. I have been pondering taking this opportunity to possibly pick up an older twin shock. Maybe a Fantic or Montesa Cota. They're beautiful machines and surprisingly affordable. In my quest for an easier to ride bike, how would an older machine compare to my TXT 250? Whould they have the softer power delivery I'm looking for or would I me having the same issues I am now? All advice gratefully received! Cheers!

Is there a nack to removing the tyre? I've a puncture and want to fix it, I tried getting the tyre off today and it didn't want to budge, I was only using small 8-10" levels that I use on the enduro bike, do I need to get the 2' car tyre levers out??

My dad and a couple mates' dads who are old trials riders are getting on a bit but have thought about getting back into the sport after many years absent. They just want to ride easy clubman sections and maybe just do some observing. They have a dilema as they don't want to buy a new bike simply because they are a bit too snappy with the power, don't have modern engines & brakes & suspension and most importantly for the old fellas - there's no seat. They don't want an old bike because they're not very mechanically minded and don't want to be restoring or fixing things. The only option it seems for them is to buy an old fully restored bike which commands top doll…

I am about to start juggling suspension setting's etc. on my sons new Sherco 80. I will probably end up making more changes at once than I should, and have to retrace my steps to get back to a reasonable point along the way, but heck, it is all for fun anyway. So, thinking aloud,, If I raise (have more fork sticking out the top towards the handlebar) the forks in the triple trees, this will make it steer tighter, and the front end feel heavier and less likely to wheelie. It will also lower seat height and skid pan height. Roll the bars back, it turns slower, is more stable, maybe a bit easier to wheelie??? Roll the bars forward, quicker steering more weight on the f…

Here's one to dream about. I'm getting increasingly disillusioned with my job (IT Project Manager) and think more and more about quitting. I'd love to make a living in something trials related. I keep thinking about working out how to get hold of some land to allow Trials practice on and maybe club events. I know there's lots of red tape .... but .... Would there be enough income to make a living ? Within the UK where d'you think this would succeed best ? Would you pay, how much, for as good practice site ? What would you do ?

Hello everyone, My son (8) has been learning to ride motorcycles. He's also just recently had his first trials lessons (with me learning too). I'm a lifelong road rider with some experience of dirt riding in Spain, but nothing like trials. I'm a bit indecisive about whether to buy bikes just yet. On one hand, whilst I think I know what we need, I probably don't, but on the other, we're going for instruction, but then can't practice what we are being taught, which isn't efficient considering the cost of the instruction. Our lad hasn't ridden clutched before, but I'm confident I can teach him the basics of how a clutch works, without too much trouble. He …

Kind of as the title mentions, newbie question. I notice it seems the chain tensioners, whether on a modern bike or vintage machine use a non roller style wear block. Is there a valid reason for the slide to be preferred over rollers?

Hi - I just bought a new Renthal chain after reading in these forums that they are the best. However, a guy in my local shop just stated that they are actually made by Regina and just branded Renthal. He stated that Renthal don't actually manufacture any chain themselves at all. Seems a bit strange after what I have read, and also as I compared them in the shop and they appeared to be different to me, with the Renthal looking a heavier duty item. Can anyone confirm or deny this statement, as I paid a lot more for Renthal than the cost of Regina, and I would like to know if I paid simply for the name or not. Thanks in advance.

For you bike gurus that have ridden or owned both the 2 stroke and 4 stroke bikes which do you prefer and why? Currently Riding a Cota 300rr but looking to trade it in and try a 2 stroke TRS 300 Raga for this year. Biggest drawback is going from injection back to a carb but shouldn't be too big of an issue it i get it jetted right. Whats the power comparison on the 2 stroke vs 4? I know with snowmobiles you need almost twice the horsepower in a 4 stroke to get the same performance as a 2 stroke. Plus the weight savings is nice on the TRS. Thoughts?

Following a twenty + years sabbatical, i am feeling the need to get back into beginners trials. My previous bike (which wasnt with me for long due to some crooked thieving low life ) was a Yamaha Pinky. I'm looking for advice on the following please: Choice of bike: I am 5'10 tall and 100 kg. I have roughly £1200 to £1400 spend Having looked on the various auction sites for available bikes, i think my options are: Beta Rev, Sherco, Gas gas, Scorpa SY (similar to my previous Yam?) obviously i have no experience of these newer machines and looking for guidance. I am assuming a 250cc will be the right capacity, with me slightly lar…
