Trials Transport

Vans, Trailers, Racks etc.

  1. Started by RonH,

I thought some of you might like to see how I transport my bike around. I don’t have a truck or trailer and was not even considering getting one just to haul my bike around, so I designed and built this one and have used it, with no issues, for about a year now. I’ve read others describe something similar, but I had never seen photos of what it looked like, so as an architect, I thought I’d design and make my own that’s simple, effective and affordable. I drive a Mini Cooper S and first looked at off the shelf carriers but all I found, in the US, were overly large and cumbersome plus they required a 2” hitch setup. Also, with the hitch I put on the car, the only…

Hi everyone, Looking at getting a bike again after a couple of years off but I'd quite like a small van to keep it from prying eyes and for ease of loading so no faffing with a trailer etc. It will also be handy for the mountain bikes. I'm looking at some of the newer models, i used to have a face lift vw t5 which was lovely but now not necessary and too expensive. I quite like the caddy's but they are quite expensive for a basic spec but still an option. The Citroen berlingo looks like a good option as the enterprise model has air con, electric windows etc and looks smart inside. Has anyone got either of the above and how do you find it for one b…

I manage part of a company and we run a fleet of Transits...Ideal for the weekend to put the bike in I have just received through the post, 2 seperate incidents, one in Wiltshire and one in Yorkshire of my vehicles speeding on a Dual Carrigeway, one at 75mph and one at 72mph. I actually thought the police were being a bit petty, however they did enclose a Government leaflet which reads: Built up Areas Cars 30mph Panel Vans 30mph Single Carriageway Cars 60mph Panel Vans 50mph Dual Carriageway Cars 70mph Panel Vans 60mph Motorways Cars 70mph Panel Vans 70mph So maybe not so petty as they were both speeding.........Maybe they are having anothe…

Any one know how to get a cheap(er) ferry to belfast for the wtc next year?

  8. Started by boner,

So, each time I try and strap the gas gas down to take it anywhere it ALWAYS seem to riggle loose of the ratchet straps, and slowly lowers itself onto it's side!!! How the hell are you suposed to strap a trials bike down for transport??? Cheers - matt.

Hows everyone go about fastening their bikes to the trailers? I am slightly worried about the amount of pressure I seem to have to put the straps under to secure it and remove most of the suspension sag? At the minute I send a strap through either side of the Fork lower crowns and then one from each side of the frame above the foot pegs to fasten the back down. Ive being thing of building a sump stand for the bike and strapping it too that, but then I guess the bike has no cushion from the suspension? Cheers

My Autowbars rack arrived today, and I've got it fitted OK. There doesn't seem to be any way of stopping the handlebar hitting the rear window of the Uglicar though so it looks like I'll have to sort out some sort of padding. It would help if I could strap the bike down a bit more securely. The straps that I bought from Autowbars with the rack don't have ratchets, and are rather weedier than I expected (not to mention almost twice the price that my local care spares shop charges!). Any reason not to use ratchet straps? It would seem to be better to me, but I obviously don't want to crank everything down so hard that the rack starts to bend. The instructions say to use …

Will a modern trials bike fit in a Suzuki Carry van? I don’t need a van for work or anything so don’t want anything huge on the drive but just something to ferry a bike around - max 35 miles away from home (but will also be MTBs and other sports stuff). My other option is a VW Caddy but don’t need to spend a huge amount for a bike carrier.

Some thieving Ba****ds paid us a visit last night and helped themselves to one or two parts from the van. From the pictures, it would appear that they took specific parts as nothing was taken from inside the van. This happened in the Richmond, North Yorkshire area so keep so your eyes open and ears to the ground. This is whats left:- A full set of pictures can be found here CSI have just left and have found nothing they can use. It would appear to be a professional job. Apparently, there has been a few vans stripped locally in the last few weeks. More expense and 4 weeks before Scotland ****!*!* Bas***ds.
