Hi guys, I'm new to the forum - just signed up as I need some help. I have a 2005 4rt. Just completed a oil filter/oil change and the clutch plates were removed and inspected as we had a 'judder' on the clutch. Also checked the tappets - inlet were very slightly over so these were adjusted. Put the bike back together yesterday - no spark. This is what I have done so far to try to cure it: -Checked spark plug on a Gas Gas - works fine -used a Gas Gas plug against the head on the 4rt to check for a spark - nothing! -Removed flywheel casing just to do a visible check - all seems ok. no visible wires broken on the pick up or the stator -I have checked every co…

Not been riding my 4RT for 3-4 months and went out to re-try a few sections that I did, at a recent Trial, that I cleaned on my other 2T bike Tried on the 4RT and would it grip, no it bloody wouldn't - even with a brand new tyre............. on muddy hillsides and woodland type sections Grr, I find the front end has a mind of its own sometimes too Rocks, fine Streams fine Mud/Banks..........nope

Chaps & Chapets Can some one help me with this one? On a normal carb the idle adjustment only affects pure idle and just off the pilot jet. The questions is: on the 2014 Repsol fuel injection system, does the idle screw still act like a standard carb idle screw or does it affect the other parts of the RPM range also. In other words does opening up the idle screw let more air in at more than just low idle type RPM’s? I dont think it does but I want to get some more opinions on this!!! If it only affects idle then how do I get more air in at the higher RPM’s? Mapping? Thanks BillyT

I was reading an old discussion on this forum about whether the 4RT runs a “wasted spark” ignition (that is one spark per revolution of the crankshaft) rather than a more conventional (four stroke) one spark every 2nd revolution. It was also suggested that the fuel injection is not sequential but rather injects fuel continuously. Certainly Honda are not averse to using wasted spark ignitions - many of their multi-cylinder bikes do just that. Hey guys, bought a 2003 bike a few weeks ago (LOVE IT) and other than the knock it pulls like an absolute train!! Anyway, here is the video of the knock. Some friends have suggested the small end bearing. My dad has just rebuilt his Beta Techno and it sounds like a sewing machine compared to mine now!! Any ideas? Also, I live in the UK and I can't find a small end bearing/con rod kit anywhere. Does anyone know where would be best to look? I don't mind paying overseas shipping if it is this that's the problem. The manual doesn't show a bash plate for the 247, so wondering if anyone ever made one for the Cota 247 and if so, any pictures?

Apparently there will no more 260 race reps for model year 2014, if you want one you'll have to wait for 2015. They've sold out and apparently the uk isn't getting anymore, so if you want a 260, you'll have to have the standard one. I know of a couple of people who have been waiting quite a while for one and were expecting to get them in march/April and are rather miffed about it. Maybe someone from Honda could verify this to all it customers waiting,

Hello All Just managed to get my hands on a very early Cota. (frame and engine number under 1200!) I'm thrilled to have a 'bike resto in the shed for the first time in about 15 years (last was an old Norton) I'll be honest with a Cota this early, I think that it should be accurately restored rather than put together as a competitive machine. Hello Folks I have a 1979 349 Montesa Cota that I am going to get the engine rebuilt and as there are no workshop manuals for these can you guys tell me things like piston clearence, cylinder head tensions, casing bolt tensions, and anything else that you know about like Firing position, point gap, well i'll leave it to you guys keep the info coming as I am sure others will use it as well thank you.

I am hoping someone can enlighten me on the workings of the Cota 247 swingarm, it seems like a dumb question but it is different from any other bike on which I have worked. Inside the swingarm, where it meets the frame, on either side, there is a threaded insert inside of a rubber bushing, a body fit bolt is then inserted through the frame to hold the swingarm in place. Once tightened down the swingarm is locked in place and does not appear to be free to pivot or move. So my question is how does the swingarm then travel through the movement of the suspension? Does it just move with what little flex the rubber will allow, sort of like a torsion system? Or is there someth…

Hi Guys Today I had a great time riding the 247 that I bought a couple of weeks ago, I was at the excellent Bob MacGregor trials academy that is about twenty mins from my house. The bike was great and a lot of fun even for a first timer to the sport. Sadly after three hours the engine seized and left me with a long push back to the car park. It could have been worse because I was on a straight and level bit and not half way up a bank! I havent dealt with this before so any advice will be appreciated as usual.. The engine was very smokey and this didnt go away which I did expect after an hour or so. I wondered if the gearbox oil was being drawn through the seals? But t…

It's been over a year now since the 4RT replaced the 2ST whats the concensus: Did Montesa do the right thing or should they have run on the 2ST for a couple more years? How many units are the dealers selling in 06 compared with 04? Do you think the indoor series has hurt Montesa?

hello, ive been away from trials for a number of years now, but am looking to make a return. My brother has just bought a 300rr, and it seems a bit more sharp off the bottom than I remember my old 4rt was, but it was while ago.. The suspension was excellent tho, I have to say, front and back. I had a couple of 4rt's before , a 2005 and a 2008 model. my 2005 was a better bike, because it was newer to me and had seen less abuse than the 08. I was looking at the 4rts and noticed things havnt changed much outwardly. Hello; I have recently purchased a montesa cota mh 349. I think this is the only example in here where I live. Its funny that I bought the bike by just looking at the photos , and actually I had never seen a trials bike before :). its not something you can come by here often. The bike was brought here by a spanish family with a caravan 8 years ago and left over here when going back. well I am lucky that the bike starts and runs well, all 6 gears can be selected. is has stupid enduro mud guards and head light . Rear shocks are far gone and fork needs rebuild, kick starter is quite hard (even I am used to this with my old KTM, but this one is on the rihgt side!!!…

Hi everyone, Looking for some simple electrical knowledge please. I want to put the condenser under the tank out of the way of the heat as the many threads suggest. What do you connect the red wire from the condenser to, does it get earthed to the coil/frame mount, or to the spade connector off the coil? Thanks.
