Hello, Newbie warning: I bought a cota 348 a couple of weeks ago and noticed an oil leak from the timing flywheel cover, pulled off the cover and saw that the case has cracked bý the kick start shaft . Questions: Is it wort welding the case and can I disassemble just the right hand side of the motor? I removed the sprocket gaurd but the bolts seem to rotate what is it on the inside of the case that the bolts screw into?

  5. Hey all! Very excited about a new Montesa Repsol I just ordered. Just for fun, I was wondering if anyone knew how diferent the Repsol Replica was from the actuall factory bike. I know the Gas Gas Raga replica is fairly true to the factory bike is this the same for Montesa? Also for those that have been running a Repsol what do you thing of it? This would be my first 4stroke trials bike, I'm curius to know more about it. I have to wait about 4 weeks for mine to show up. :/ Cheers!

Hi, I have a 2009 montesa repsol and it is "tapping". I have adjusted the valve clearances and checked the cam chain adjuster (which is fine). Even with the tappets set according to the manual I still have much too much tapping from the top of the engine... Any ideas what i'm missing? Cheers Jamie

Right then Montesa fans. I’ve asked a similar question on the Sherco forum. Tell me why I should buy a Montesa and not a Beta 200 or 250. Or not, as the case may be. The reason for asking is I’m thinking of changing fron twin shock to modern and it’s really hard to get my head around the pros, cons, problems and model changes of the various manufacturers. I’ve g it myself reasonably well-educated on the Betas so I need to compare. My budget buys me a 2014-16 Beta so a Montesa would be somewhat older.

  10. 2007 standard 4RT 250 was running fine but first, suddenly would cut out when the throttle was touched and now won't start at all. Checked the air fllter, plug, fuel feed from tank (fresh 99 fuel); the plug is wet and it has a spark; doesn't make sense that it won't run. No changes made to idle speed, always used to start on a dead throttle and throttle is fully closed. Any thoughts please? I can't find anybody local with a diagnostic tool that won't charge me about as much as the bike is worth and reading the manual on diagnostics is gobbledegook to me, I barely understand one word in three... Bring back carbs and points! Any thoughts gratefully received, cheer…

Can anybody suggest what sort of spark I should be looking for when manually turning over? I'm trying to figure if there could be an electrical issue with the coil/stator pack... When pushing slowly with the kickstart - we don't get any spark?...when we push a bit quicker a spark starts to appear.....it's not hugely bright but there's something there? Should we be getting a strong spark even when pushing slowly though the stroke?

I have a friend in Spain who has a rather special Montesa 349 (see photos below). He would like to know who made the frame, he has a feeling it was an English made item but knows nothing else about it - can anyone shed any light on it?

The cross winds of rumor have indicated that montesa will no longer be imported to the States. Looking on their website confirms this to a point. US Montesa Seems like parts are still available but there are 20 some new bikes stuck in a warehouse that the Government wants to boot back to Spain or Japan. Will they be able to be used in a world round here? Would this make this country unable to hold a world round? So many questions. Apparently paper work was ignored and the Feds put the smack down. Hmmmm maybe honda can import them as a honda. Put one in every dealership like yamaha has??? That would be cool. We shall see...... (Note other than the official release a…

Hello all, I have found my dads Montesa Cota 349 1980 in his garage. The bike itself appears in (relatively) good condition. I don’t think it has been ridden (or started) for 20+ years. I would like to get this bike running again & start riding it at local events. I have pretty much zero technical knowledge, I am willing to learn & give it a go and watch YouTube videos to learn etc.. The reason I haven’t tried to start the bike is I am worried about the petrol and oil in the tank? What would I need to change or replace on a bike that old/hasn’t been ridden for 20+ years - things that would need to be changed regardless is what I am on a…

I wasn't looking forward to bleeding the rear brake on my 4rt after reading some of the posts here. Especially since an empty brake line was going back on with plenty of air to disperse. Came up with a trick I've not seen before that worked great, not only for ensuring all air gets out - but it's easy to do single handed and addresses the difficulty in filling the reservoir. Remove rear fender and muffler. Remove reservoir and two bolts holding the master cylinder. Pass the master cylinder through to the other side around the shock (yes, there's room - barely) then suspend it up high with the rear fender bolt in the right rear fender hole. This keeps the master …

Hello everyone, Just thought I would share with you my current experience of a 4RT. I currently ride a 2006 Beta and am looking at treating myself later this year. Have been looking at a Factory Sherco or a Vertigo, then my cousin who currently rides a 2015 4Rt said "why don't you try mine?" So yesterday I rode a trial on it and my god what a bike. Completely threw me off my guard, lovely balanced bike gave me loads of confidence and such smooth power delivery. Don't get me wrong conditions were wonderful and I only rode the Novice, but rode every section in first gear and cannot get over how much torque it has and how smooth it was. Am currently still smiling about …

Hi guys, Sadly we has a fire at our house last week and my Montesa 4RT suffered some fire, smoke and water damage. It’s not insured regrettably so I have to see if I can get it up and running again. The heat and fire damage seems to have affected a few plastics like the rear mudguard and also killed the rear tyre too. However at this point I also can’t get it to start at all, so I’ve been trying to work out what’s wrong in a step by step fault finding basis. The first thing we noticed was that the throttle cable was stiff and stuck and not returning to its home position. We have now removed that and will order a new one. The bike i…

My bike started ok at today's trial as usual, did the first 2 sections no problem but at section 3 the wind blew it over while I was looking at the section, when I got back to it and picked it up it would not start ? It took about 5 mins of kicking and when it did start it was bogged down as if it was a 2 Stoke with a flooded carb, I cleared its throat and rode the section no problems, had to stop shortly after to get through a gate and it would not start again, this time I adjusted the screw on the throttle body and got it going again but it was bogging again. Got to the next section with the bike running fine stopped it looked at the sections and it started 1st kick whe…
