Twinshock

  1. Started by sherco78,

After a long lay off I've come back to trials and realised that at 40 years of age club level expert route is doable just not enjoyable for me (some sections a bit dodgy for my age!!) where I am from the expert class is a big jump up from Clubman so riding a modern bike at Clubman level isn't very challenging, I've bought a very nice Fantic 240 to ride at clubman level so trying to get it as competitive as possible, what's the best rear shocks on the market and where can I get them from?

I have seen a lot of post about modifying a twinshock bike to make it better for competition. I also understand that no one wants to see a modern bike(ie sherco) with a pair of shocks on it just so they can say it is a twinshock and compete in the twinshock class(sigh). I am riding a kt250 still stock enough to compete in ahrma events. But I can't for the life of me see how any modification on a twinshock bike can be that big of an advantage aside from disc brakes. A trick carb,300cc big bore kit, lowered pegs, hydraulic clutch, trick exhaust, tubless wheels, watercooling etc...do you really think modifying a twinshock will improve your score? I think not. I love my kt250 to d…

Hi there My son rides twinshock trials on a whitehawk 80 (and does very well, 8th at the weekend in the Scarborough 2 day in twinshock clubman !)- he also rides modern. However at 12 it's getting a little small for him (will definitely be next year) - however the step up to 125/175/200 is a bit much, I have a TL 125 and Sprite 150, both of which are a bit big. I've seen a 1990 fantic 80 big wheel, air cooled mono. Was thinking of putting a new rear subframe on and converting it to twinshock, as a next step ? Any thoughts or comments ? Cheers John

I recently got a couple of 348 monts. This one is registered 1980. I've not found an original pic of 1 1980, if it is a '80 348 even. Chassis looks like a 349, but what do I know! Chassis no: 51M17604. Its got a Mikuni carb too. Was that standard in those days? And some sort of air forks. So, knowledgeable twinshock gurus - is this a last 348 or some sort of mongrel? I've also got a 1977 Rathmell replica in similar, but slightly worse condition. It's mot'd & was taxed. I'm probably going to sell that once I've given it a look over.

This week, my riding buddies new rear shocks arrived. These were OZO Pro Trials Rear Shocks from InMotion. The version he got were the silver colored ones with Shrader valves on the end cap. My question, and he has not heard back from InMotion yet, does anyone know how to alter the size of the mounting setup in regards to diameter. I have not personally tried to work on them, but he mentioned the oem spacer will pivot and rotate, but does not seem to want to be pushed out. Obviously asking before causing damage. The shock eye mount diameter is too small.

Hi guys, lately i've bought my second orange OSSA. But i recognized that the petrol tank isn't connected with the seat than the "normal" TR80's but seperate. Does anybody know, how the seat is fixed, or even has a hole picture of the bike? Because the seat and several other parts are missing! Greetz

Hi All Newbee here looking some advice for a KT250 resto project I just started. Going to try my hand at riding trials next spring and preping a bike to learn on. I would like to do a complete resto, as best as possible within reason, since I do want to ride the bike. It looks pretty complete but have already seen parts that dont match the Parts Manual I bought. Are there any KT250 folks here? Current parts I know I need to source are - Seat - Carb, air box boot - Sprockets and Chain Would ike to add a compression release, since head is drilled for it already, anyone do this? Direct email, if desired is 82indypc@gmail.com Cheers Tim

Well, I guess I should have my head examined but I just purchased a 83' Italjet 350T Piuma. The bike was left back here in the States after a world round. It is complete with the scrutineers marks on both hubs, engine and steering head. The paint dabs are scribed with the number 26 (Rider No, 26). I need a few bits and larger pieces to bring it back to being respectable. The mud guards, white tank, side stand and factory kick lever. During the round, the rider broke the kicker shaft as everone is well aware was a huge problem with these bikes. The shaft has been replaced which is a mirical in itself thanks for a doner Italjet being parted out on ...."the bay." So …

Would love to now more about this type of bike spotted at the DK Mansell trial last Sunday, there were two of them riding round...a brief chat with one of the riders, he mentioned tha the motor was made in China (a Honda copy?) 200cc and very sweet sounding indeed.

Hi guys, I've just fitted a Gremica 125mm front hub to a Bantam to try to improve the braking power over the previously fitted Montesa 110mm hub. The hub had very little wear, max dia was measured at 125.5mm and surface was free of any damage, I used a new NOS brake plate and cam assembly with oversized shoes arched to to fit the hub. The lining material was recommended by Villiers Services to be the best for trials. I also opened the brake plate spindle hole 0.020" to allow the plate to centralise with the brake on before tightening the spindle. Now what I expected was a significant improvement in braking power but in fact the braking is no better! New wheel beari…

Hi, I am getting ready to start modifying my Ty 175 frame and swing arm. I am looking for advice and possibly pictures of which mods work the best. I was planning on using either falcon or magical rear shocks with the swing arm extended with the top mount moved down, and possibly stock front forks with magical springs or a complete 250 conversion. Is it possible to heat the top tube/cut the center tube to change the steering angle to 26 degrees. Is it also possible if I made jigs can I make a stock frame into a close copy of a majesty 200 like I have seen done to a 250 on this site. I have access to a perfect Majesty 200 to use as a example. I am also looking fo…

Has anyone any opinion on which is best shocks, Rockshocks or Falcons, I have made an enquiry about some alloy bodied Rockshocks, I know there have been reports of poor service from Falcon shocks, are the Falcons any better than the Rockshocks and worth the wait or should I just go ahead with the Rockshocks. (new to twin shock bikes)

Hi all, I just wondered if any one knows how to work out the length of spokes needed for a wheel rebuild? I am trying to rebuild a wheel that had a 17`` rim on it. I am now going to try and put an 18`` rim on instead. As the hunt for 17`` trials tyres was proving to be impossible... Many thanks in advance.... Pete.

Sorry to be back on this hobby horse of WES exhausts for Bultaco Sherpa-Ts but I really remain incredulous that WES doesn't have even a rear exhaust for the world's most popular vintage trials bike. I recently sent an email to Bob Ginder at B&J in the USA who apparently have some business relationship with WES. Bob tells me that WES told him that they don't get many requests for exhausts for Bultaco Sherpa Ts. and thats why they are not in the catalogue. I find that absolutely fascinating. Let's be honest, the rear club foot (or pregnant boomerang) rear silencer in all Sherpa Ts from the M151 (1975) onwards have all had the same rear exhaust, although the last cou…
