Hi all I'm just finishing the restoration of a M91 Bultaco and I've got as far as doing the wiring. The stator plate I have has 2 gold coloured coils, points at the top and a condensor at the bottom. The problem is I have no wires. What should I have and where should they run too?

Hi All, Went out for a spot of green laning yesterday on my Sherpa T 191. There was quite a lot of road work involved which meant trying, and failing, to keep up with my mate on his 1950 Norton 500 T. Heading back after a couple of hours my clutch was getting grabby and throttle response was jerky. Then engine lost power and died. All compression had gone so had to push it home. I've left it overnight and although I haven't attempted to start it, there is compression now. I know it's geared for trials so top speed about 30mph but does anyone know why it would lose compression? Cheers. Neil.

I've been visiting my local bike shop a bit too often now, after spotting this beauty! M-92 model and needing lots of love, as when we pulled the head, not even a piston inside!!! I love vintage trials, and trying to get a bit better as a rider, and very happy with my little yellow bike. But something tells me I should try to rebuild this beast and bring it back to life. Am I crazy? Will it be worth all the effort, tears and getting yelled at by family and friends that I've lost my mind?!?!? But it's soooo pretty! Any and all advice is welcome. ANd I know this bike won't make me a better rider, but I sure will look cool! Thanks!

Okay, so this is not really trials related but I suspect someone on here will be able to offer some advice. I have a Bultaco, Pursang which I have been building and is pretty much all done, however I cannot get a spark from the Motoplat ignition. The ignition is the internal rotor type 63mm rather than the external rotor trials type. I have taken some measurements and referenced them, the coil and stator both seem to throw odd values. I have tried contacting UK Motoplat both via website and Ebay listing but no reply has been received. I have also tried West Country windings who tell me they cannot repair Motoplat. Does anyone know anyone in the UK that could…

  9. Hi folks , just signed up to ask before plunging in and buying . I had a 1968 Sherpa T around 1972 ,I remember it being a very nice ride compared to the British stuff I'd been riding , foolishly sold it . Now I have retired ,I'm looking for another Bultaco but quite fancy an Alpina .I only ever saw articles in American Dirt Bike mags ,never saw one in the flesh but always hankered after one . As I understand it , Alpinas up to 75 are basically Sherpa Ts but with closer ratio gearboxes ,something that would suit my end use of unhurried trial riding . After 75 ,I believe they have a Pursang crank and left hand gearchange as well as longer swinging arm , is this ri…

Just added a fine running 199A to collection of trials bikes. I'd like to update this one without going too crazy. I will be riding it here in the USA in vintage and AHRMA. I really don't think any modification is needed to be competitive but in reviewing the forums, the following modifications look interesting to me. Move foot pegs back and down. Modify the handle bar mounting to eliminate the "tiller-effect." Add needle bearings to the clutch actuator to improve action. I'm looking for opinions on these modifications and any recommendations on others. Thanks.

Hi, I keep hearing about having the exhaust packing done properly on the middle and back box - it is in fact mentioned in Don Morleys book, and how it can affect performance but I cant seem to find a definitive answer on what is correct. So..can anyone confirm? Is it supposed to be very tightly packed or is looser packing better? many thanks Stu

The 'vesty replica' at Telford had a reed valve conversion. Has anyone any experience of the effects of this mod? I'd expect smoother running at low revs because of cleaner low down carburation...anyone ever tried it?

Hi All, i have been fortunate enough to increase the Bultaco collection this weekend. A couple of questions though and hopefully some useful guidance. I purchased the bikes because both my father and i love them, he had them 50 years ago when he was 17ish and for me as an affordable twinshock bike they are my chosen mount . i am not looking to restore to perfect condition just to the extent funds will allow and to be rideable in twinshock trials Anyway one of the bikes is a white framed, Bultaco 340, it has what appears to be normal Bulto forks but on one side has no pinch bolts, Is this correct or is it a replacement fork leg that has not had holes drilled or the …
