Anybody ever tried converting the beta 80 to a flatslide carb I.E Keihin, OKO etc??? I think the bike would run cleaner on a better carb, we bought my son his new 2017, its never run brilliantly, often fuelling up and idle seems to vary. I know the smaller cc bikes will suffer with pilot jets blocking up because by nature the hole is very small. However Ive had to clean out the carb much more often than on any other bike and also play with the needle height, mixture screw etc to try and retain a decent smooth running. Surely the top lads on these bikes cant have these issues? Do the likes of Hemmingways have modified bikes? or did we just get the Frida…

My son has been pestering me for months about a trials bike and I've finally given in and said yes.(Really it means that if I get him a bike then I'll be able to get out on my Gas Gas more often!) Basically I've narrowed it down to either a Sherco or a Beta mini trial. (My son is 5 years old) What's the views on either of these bikes for starting out on? Any problems to be aware of? My budget is around

  6. Hi My son has just turned 14 and wants to start trials. We live newr to Nash Mills site and I have a Beta tr 33 myself. its obviously to big and heavy for him to start and ride properly, and I have been considering a Beta 80 or Beta 125. My son is about 5ft tall and lightly built. Can anyone let me know if the 80cc will suit him or if we should go for a 125? Many thanks Dave

Hi all, New here but not to bikes. I ride a lot of enduros, hare & hounds and have ridden trials in the past. My 9 year old son has been riding enduro and MX for the past 2 yeasr now on a KTM 50SX so is pretty good on a bike but is not used to gears. Hes done a couple of Enduros and rides really well. I want to start trials riding with him to help his balance practice this winter. Iv ridden trials myself but wasnt sure what bike to get him. I have been reading other posts and topics on here regarding junior bikes but im not sure of the size. He is quite short like his Dad but has good balance so I think the junior 80s would be ok for him. The 50s look small but im no…

Hi, My 6 year old son is very keen on Trials, and I am looking to buy a bike in the spring. He has not ridden a motorcycle before, so I am thinking about looking at an auto (e.g Beta minitrial). Has any one got any advice regarding these bikes, and there suitability for use in competition. I know the traditional route for youngsters was with the TY 80, but my son has set his heart on a more "modern" looking bike, like the ones Dougie rides! Whilst he is 6 years old he has the height and build of an 8 year old, so I dont want a bike he will grow out of too soon. On the other hand I want him to have fun while he is learning to handle the bike and gain confidence, an…

As been involved with Trials from every angle, Rider, minder, parent, organizer. coc, sponser, plus anything else the sport needs. I sit here reading the list of national date provided by the ACU to our club Scarborough and District Motor Club, we at sdmc have been about for a long time, 104 years same as the acu. We at SDMC have run youth nat trials from the start of the youth movment approx 20 years or so? running A & B and C&D Championship events, often alternat years but sometimes c&d on the sat and a&b on the sun this we have done to help out our trusted ACU, But not anymore our annual date of April is no more , we were offerd a feb date which w…

Well done to all the GB lads and of course to Alexz Wigg in particular as he has done the business by winning his first WTC event. Haven't had a chance to get to talk to anyone over there but I am so pleased that he seems to be getting the terrific results that he promised to do in the first few rounds. Good stuff. Gubian down in 8th aswell, even better!

Our little un is getting on great with his 2008 beta 80 and i have'nt had any problems with the bike apart from the carbaration. I cant seem to get a consistant set up. Everytime i think its right it goes pear shaped. occasionally the bike races on tick over, occasionally suffers fuel starvation in a sections and has to be started on choke half way through a trial it then runs ok. To be fair if i clean the carb after every ride its better, but i cant help thinking, im missing something. I am using a 66:1 mix as recommended in the handbook and putoline oil and standard unleaded re-routed the throttle cable etc. Does anyone whos had beta 80's for a while have any ideas. Che…

There is concern amongst those involved in the youth championships, by the provisional dates allocated for 2018. In several instances there appear to be plans to hold one trial for A and B classes on one day of a weekend then another for the C and D classes on the second day. The problem arises since one needs to consider numbers of potential riders in the various classes, as far as the organisers are concerned, will just two classes competing raise enough riders? Then there is the impact on expense as far as the parents are concerned. For example those with more than one child competing could be facing overnight stay costs for several weekends of the year for th…
