Bultaco

  1. I recently was approached by a gentleman who said he had without knowing bought Sammy Miller's first Sherpa T Bultaco . Later when he grew suspicious of his bikes history he went to great lengths to discover the truth and to authenticate his bike as the real deal. The story is very very interesting and should give all those who think they have a special bike , hope of discovering its heritage . This exact motorcycle changed the history and entire course of our sport . The previous heavy four stroke British Trials machines were unfortunately made redundant almost overnight , by this Bultaco , which heralded the start of the Bultaco and Spanish Trials trials invasion.…

My clutch case does not have any clearance and rubs on the clutch centre drum pins and the end of the clutch springs ? Not sure if I have the wrong clutch centre hub,or the wrong clutch case ? Year manufacture 1976.

Well didn't know if to start a blog or a forum topic but chose the latter. Some of you know I have a 199B Sherpa amongst my twinshockers and it's been with me a long time, BUT I had a long hiatus from the sport and a shorter one out of the twinshock business. Being slightly disinterested for a while meant I didn't even look at my bikes let alone look after them much, they had been in storage and thats about it. All "Fired Up" again now though and really feel guilty I left my bikes for so long, I also realised I'd lost out on a lot of fun. So my punishment begins! and the bike was completely torn down when I returned from a trial last Sunday. Took all of an hour to…

At the recent Telford show there was a Bultaco trials bike with a chromed frame standing next to a Model 10 near to Dave Renham's stand. The front half of the frame looked std Bult but the rear was quite different, do you know the make of frame or reason for its modification.

Can some of the experts give an opinion on the difference in power delivery of the 199A (325) and 199B (340) sherpas?. I've been told that the 325 is a bit sharper but surely a couple of cc,s doesn't make all that much difference?.

I've recently acquired a very late model 199b. Likely one of the last dozen built. In any case like most of these bikes the chrome lining has peeled off both brake drums. Over the years on this forum and elsewhere I've read how good the puma or Vazquez brakes are. My question is this. Where is the cast iron sourced from? What size can you get it in. I have a machinist that can install it but we are having issues on where to buy the material. Any thoughts ? Steve

I have read some of the old posts about brakes and even contacted some of the members here on TT. But I haven't yet read were a Bultaco owner has brakes that work as efficiently as a Honda. I know that is upsetting , but come on how hard can it be? Bully brakes are 125mm and my Honda has 110mm. Is it purely the lining material? Is it design? Is it mechanical leverage? I have tried 1 Relining the brake drum 2 Bushing the cam pivot 3 Newfren shoes 4 Machining shoes to match drums 5 Centralising the backing plate when tensioning the axle 6 Venhill nylocable …

Hi everybody I'm in the process of rebuilding the engine of my Sherpa. I need (among many other parts) a new piston kit. Does anybody have experience with the Italkit pistons from In Motion? Or does some one of you guys know from a secret stash of original Mahle pistons? I need a 84.00mm piston.

Happiest chap in Bultacoland today! just fished my first rebuild of anything and it happens to be the type of bike I obsessed over 30+ years ago and could never have! The only thing I didn't do was split the engine. The amazing thing is it actually goes and seems to go quite well! round the yard at least! so by way of saying thanks to everybody on here who has patiently answered my many questions, heres a couple of pics. I've also had great help from the chaps at Inmotion as well as John Collins in Wales and honestly, without the help of guys like them and the knowledge on this forum I'd never have managed it. the bike was built to be usable, not a thing of perfection…

  14. Hi folks , just signed up to ask before plunging in and buying . I had a 1968 Sherpa T around 1972 ,I remember it being a very nice ride compared to the British stuff I'd been riding , foolishly sold it . Now I have retired ,I'm looking for another Bultaco but quite fancy an Alpina .I only ever saw articles in American Dirt Bike mags ,never saw one in the flesh but always hankered after one . As I understand it , Alpinas up to 75 are basically Sherpa Ts but with closer ratio gearboxes ,something that would suit my end use of unhurried trial riding . After 75 ,I believe they have a Pursang crank and left hand gearchange as well as longer swinging arm , is this ri…

Hi guys, Started to do a few jobs on the bike I purchased a few months ago. I only want it to work, I'm not looking for a show bike... Brakes are non existent, to that end I removed the back wheel, sprocket and backplate. The hub is a bit of a horror story, the bearing on the sprocket side is a rattling fit despite the numerous centre punch dots rained upon it, liner has a big lip of probably 2 to 3 mm and one of the bolts holding the sprocket on has been opened out to M10 or thereabouts. I can repair the bolt holes, I can ally weld and bore the bearing diameter but the liner will be a pain. Anyone have a maximum diameter for the rear drum? I'm ho…

I'm new with my Bultaco Lobito (bought as a Sherpa but that's another story!) So far I haven't been able to find much information on the bike... and if I could it would be in Spanish, which isn't very helpful. What bike is the Lobito anyway? I read that it was intended for youngsters who are too big for small bikes, but even that basic information was hard to find...it doesn't really look or feel "small"...any clues are helpful. Now the story... after cleaning my lovely AMAL I thought I should check the spark, that was easy as there was none. After taking the side cover off and sanding the points for some time (not that easy to come by) I gave it a try and had a spar…
