I am in the market for an 2010 evo. I have ridden the 290 and like it but am getting lots of guys telling me to get the 250 instead. I cant get one to ride so must decide unridden. I think the 290 easier to calm down ala gearing, flywheel weight, base gasket and throttle if I find it too much than trying to beef up a 250. I will keep this bike three years or so dont want a bike that is underpowered. Am I seeing this wrong??? any input would be appreciated.

Hmmm, another issue :-( My cooling fan isn't working and it's causing the coolant to overheat. I've had a good practice in the woods this morning and It's steaming and spitting out coolant from the overflow. Does anyone have any tips for fault diagnosis by any chance? Thanks in Advance...

I am going to look at a Beta Rev3 250, So here we go what am I looking for as far as mechanical stuff. It has sat for a while, all the normal stuff I am able to spot but is there anything bike specific that I need to be looking at. This bike is 14 years old so there is bound to be somthing I may stumble on ? any advice will be appreciated. Oh yeah I am am 6 foot and 16 stone will it carry me ? Rich.

Chaps, Just noticed this little movie online: http://betamotor.jp/support/cluch-ajust.htm What's going on there? Shimming out for better engagement? Is this an alternative option as opposed to filing/polishing the plates?

  8. I am having some problems with the carb on my Beta rev 3 250cc 2005 trials bike. I have had the bike a few months and have just been using the bike in fields, going up hills as I am new to trials. The bike starts well normally first or second kick. Recently I noticed that the carb was leaking, I think it has always done this but I had not noticed before. The carb has got the atmospheric tubes looped of the top of the carb and cut at an angle in the end.Petrol drips out from the over flow in the float bowl. This does not happen when the bike ticks over but when you rev the bike half to 3/4 throttle.I am not a mechanic and have little experience with carbs and have been tr…

Never owned a Beta until now, done a few changes like the wheels and a sticker kit may look to do a bit more soon. Compared to my Gas Gas the Beta is very stable, smooth and surprisinly easy to hop. The Gas Gas has the Beta in situations like deep mud, the Gas Gas will launch whereas the Beta will bog down - but its still early days.

OK so I'm sitting here thinking I'd like to set up a way to monitor rotational speed of the crankshaft. An optical sensor being the easiest method to implement and a resolver being the hardiest. Knowing that the crankshaft speeds up and slows down as it goes through the two stroke cycle it occurs to me that this would be a very sophisticated way to monitor engine fuel and ignition requirements. From instantaneous crank acceleration one can deduce engine load from the ratio of how much the crank slows between power strokes and how much it speeds up during the power stroke. One could also sense pre-ignition and detonation as short-violent deceleration just prior to the pow…

Delighted to be back on a Beta, worried about rear mudguard breakages , have 2 friends who quote easy to break and expensive to fix as sole reason for not buying Beta. Read and heard all about 2011 rear mudguards being (shall we say different quality) and am looking at the way the whole thing fits the bike (2012 EVO)...bear in mind my missus has one too so it would be quite possible for us to break 2 in the same day. Apart from the unneccesary cost of replacement it is the sort of thing than can spoil a holiday or a good weekend so I am now scratching my head for a way to make it a part which can snap off and be fixed back on(preferably in the field), for those of you wh…

  12. I just came off an Evo 300 4T, 2015, and got a '15 Montesa 260. I thought I'd share my opinions, if you don't mind... The Montesa feels heavier. Like you feel the weight picking the bike off the stand. Feels 10-15lbs heavier. BUT - when you ride it - you don't feel the weight. Why? The Montesa feels like it's two inches shorter in the wheelbase, specifically it feels like the front wheel is two inches further back (to me). This makes the front end feel very light. Add to this a much springier front fork, and more bottom end power, and she is a wheely-ing machine. On the Beta I was always hopping the rear end around because it was so hard for me to hop the front whe…

  13. Hello all, I'm looking for some general engine setup advise on my newly acquired 2000 Rev 3 270. It runs well enough most of the time but does have a few issues: 1) Pinking - It's only minor but consistent when you get off the throttle the low to mid RPM range...especially if you've been running under load at higher RPMs like up hills between sections. - It might be the *****, low octane petrol we have here in the States. I'm using the highest octane stuff I can get at the pump but I refuse to pay triple for race octane stuff. - Thought also it might be running lean so I've lifted the needle in the Carb one groove down on the circlip which has improved it slightly. …

New adjustment of the fork. The optimization of the oil flow makes the fork more sensitive to the absorption of the shocks, it is thus more reactive with the bounce to facilitate the lifting operations or the simple movements of the nose gear wheel. New adjustment of the shock absorber. More stable services in time associated with a better stability. New carburettor Keihin PWK

Stuck them in today, wow what a difference smoothed out the throttle really well. Not had a chance to give them a good test yet, but keeping my fingers crossed it will make a big difference for the better. Most difficult part of fitting them wasnt removing the reed block, carb, exhaust and moving clutch cable!!!! getting them out of the packaging without bending the buggers took nearly as long is there a trick to it? the vacuum packaging was a pain.

Hello. New to the forum and would be grateful of some advice. I've had a beta techno techno 250 1995 for just over a year and it can be very tempremental. If I run her regularly she's fine but if left she gets the hump and won't start . I've checked the spark which seems fine, and after several kicks the plug is wet so it would appear to be getting fuel. Eventually she fires into life and once up and running it's absolutelty fine. starts first kick. Next day it's back to the start again. If anyone has any suggestions I'd be eternally grateful coz my left leg is aching and my foot hurts from kicking it over so much. I have tried a few different plugs but not found on…
