Can some of the experts give an opinion on the difference in power delivery of the 199A (325) and 199B (340) sherpas?. I've been told that the 325 is a bit sharper but surely a couple of cc,s doesn't make all that much difference?.

I have now ridden a trial on my recently restored Bultaco 350 model 199a the blue one but find the clutch take-up too sharp. It has the all metal clutch the plates appear to be flat & in good condition not blued or burred on the tangs, everything seems ok, the clutch does not slip but take up is sharp making bike control difficult also it does not clear very well making it very difficult to select neutral with the engine running. Has anyone any ideas has I have tried everything that I can think of without success & this problem is spoiling what is otherwise a very nice bike to ride.

I recently was approached by a gentleman who said he had without knowing bought Sammy Miller's first Sherpa T Bultaco . Later when he grew suspicious of his bikes history he went to great lengths to discover the truth and to authenticate his bike as the real deal. The story is very very interesting and should give all those who think they have a special bike , hope of discovering its heritage . This exact motorcycle changed the history and entire course of our sport . The previous heavy four stroke British Trials machines were unfortunately made redundant almost overnight , by this Bultaco , which heralded the start of the Bultaco and Spanish Trials trials invasion.…

I visited a bike boneyard to look at two M49s and luckily they were examples of a series 2 and a series 3 bike. This posting has the photos of the series 2 M49 serial number M4902195 and the next posting shows the other bike. What got me motivated to go looking was a post by Woody: "The serial numbers are from Bultaco's own figures so they should be right. However, they only list the model 49 as having one frame change during its production run but there were two. Series 1 with single tube under engine, upright shocks. Series 2, single frame tube under engine, angled shocks with seat unit altered to accomodate relocated top shock mounts. Series 3, twin frame tubes under…

3 weeks ago I picked up a 199A (1978 or 9 350) to try my hand at vintage Trials. I got a very well used example but it started right up and seemed to run fine. I rode it almost daily as I replaced various rotting rubber parts, missing fasteners and such (including a new air filter). It always started easily and ran well. Last weekend was our premier at a local vintage Trial. We both were doing well, considering our respective age and condition (me and the bike). After the 19th section as I rode slowly between sections the bike died as if running out of fuel or fowling a plug, not a clean cutoff like hitting the kill switch but a brief on/off, trying to stay running before …

Hello, I am new member from Appling, Georgia. USA. I have been riding off-road my whole life, at age 47 , the trials bug has bitten. I now own two sherpa t 350 model 92s' and have competed in three events. My first sherpa had engine trouble when I bought it. The second one has been flawless. It is the first one I need help with. The engine ran very poorly when I purchased it. Timing was off and it was pushing oil out of the clutch side. I replaced crank seals, points, condenser, timing chain tensioner, and re jetted the mikuni 28. It ran well, but wanted to rev, after it warmed up. I have since done a top end and still have the revving problem. I have sprayed carb cl…

At the recent Telford show there was a Bultaco trials bike with a chromed frame standing next to a Model 10 near to Dave Renham's stand. The front half of the frame looked std Bult but the rear was quite different, do you know the make of frame or reason for its modification.

This story begins sometime in 1971, or maybe it was 1972, when dad bought a nearly new model 49 Bultaco. This was to replace the 4-speed model he'd ridden briefly, worn-out heap that it was. I never knew that much about that bike as a kid growing up, although I learnt plenty about the other few in the garage. After digging out some boxes of photos from my parents loft I have found that when dad left home in the late 70s to move in with my mum, he left the Bultaco behind in his own mum's garage. A set of photos from 1985 show a very young version of me looking at the bike on the trailer outside her house, and then the early stages of it being dismantled. (Dad in…

Hi All, This is my first post to this forum. It looks like a great resource. My Name Is Jeff Harkins, I'm a custom knife maker living in Montana. I am also a Gas-Gas dealer for our neck of the woods. I recently got my dream bike a restored 1974 Sherpa T350 #92xx. I haven't had a Bultaco in 30 years so I'm a bit rusty on some things. First, the main problem is it wont start. I rebuilt the Amal 625 carb, all seems to be fine. I Checked the coil and grounding. No BIG blue spark but I could "FEEL" it. Before I attempt anymore checking I have a few questions. 1. How do you check the fluid levels? Is it if you can't see any fluid then it needs some. 2. There seems …

Well didn't know if to start a blog or a forum topic but chose the latter. Some of you know I have a 199B Sherpa amongst my twinshockers and it's been with me a long time, BUT I had a long hiatus from the sport and a shorter one out of the twinshock business. Being slightly disinterested for a while meant I didn't even look at my bikes let alone look after them much, they had been in storage and thats about it. All "Fired Up" again now though and really feel guilty I left my bikes for so long, I also realised I'd lost out on a lot of fun. So my punishment begins! and the bike was completely torn down when I returned from a trial last Sunday. Took all of an hour to…

I need to know any (if any) basic design changes of the Bultaco 350 Alpina years 1974 to 1975, 1975 to 1976 and 1976 to 1977. I do know in 1975, the brake and shifter was moved to the right and left, respectively. Primarily, I need to know design changes regarding these items: Suspension (travel length) on front and rear, rear suspension mounting points, frame changes (including any engine mounting point changes) and swingarm changes. I may need to buy Haynes manuals for each year to get detailed specifics (part numbers), but any help from you will greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there: there is a debate in Spain about the model 198B. Some say it never existed, some say there where very few bikes produced and all exported to UK and France, even some say it had only 5 speed, not 6 as the 199B. All the Bultaco documets from the factory disapeared when it close in the 80
