UK Trials Talk

Anyone doing it? I will be going as its my local practice place. Will be my second proper trial so will stick the B route though I do practice the A route when I'm there. Went last weekend an it was really cover in leaves and a lot of clay like mud. Very slippy in places. So yeah, post if your going and hopefully see you there.

A good few years ago the ACU brought in rule TSR22a ie: Stop and you get a 1 This was brought about to keep in line with the (at the time )FIM world rules. I now think that it is time the ACU updated the rules in line with the FIM. It is like asking our footballers to play with 2M wide goals and 11 men but when they go to Europe/Worldwide play with 3m wide goals and 21 men. In which other regulated worldwide sport do you see the massive difference in rules? The ACU are under the FIM umbrella so to speak. Let the SSDT, Scott etc run under what ever rules are needed for that type of event, but lets get the grass roots of the sport settled into 1 set of rules.…

Hello, I'm new on Trials Central ( But was on Trials Action a few years back ) . I just need a bit of info on how to go about riding in trials in the Midlands and surrounding areas. Left an Email with the ACU in the Midlands centre but no reply ? If anyone knows who to contact please let me know ?! Is there a list of places to practice on Trials Central anywhere ? I have a few wicked places to practice on my doorstep but I need a bit of variation ! Also is Hawks Nest in Buxton still open to bikes ? Thanks JonH

Just recieved a letter this morning informing me that 'Trials World' has siezed publication. Not enough people subscibing to it is the reason.

We are holding a round of the Midland Centre Homemaster Removals Youth Championship at Top Farm in two weeks time and the ground needs a few tyres over it. Does anyone fancy meeting up one evening or maybe next weekend for a few hours? Top Farm has a permanent trials practice area and another area which we open up for events. I've been up there this morning and the recent heavy rain and warm weather has made the weeds grow up around the sections. The venue would benifit a great deal from being used prior to setting out for the trial. Can some one explain ? The "comp levy" can't be £5 per rider per event !!! Does this also mean that ACU licence holders are going to be charged an extra £6 per event ??

Looking at some old Kick-start videos the other day, then watching the world round at Hawkstone, its pretty clear to anyone that with modern machinery and new levels of fitness and skill from the 'pilots' , trials has progressed to an unprecedented level.. but my question is :- Where can it go from here? I will probably be a bit unpopular with this comment but I didn't find this years Hawkstone as good as last years (TC Party excluded). Even though it was clear that the organisation was virtually spot on and the best you will see anywhere. do tubeless tyres need special wheels or can i fit them to any type, i have seen two kinds on youtube, one with a rim tape and another with a inner bladder, i think it was called tu-bliss, is one better than the other, also how can i tell if i have a tubeless tyre already fitted.

For me, this is a problem that keeps coming up. I think a few people fell fowl of it today. The marking in our area is generally very slack with regard to giving a one for stopping. I can count on one hand the number of ones I've had in the past few years for stopping (Before anyone says anything, yes that's about six ). One in South Wales, one in the Midlands (infact every time I dabbed my brake I could hear the bloke counting ), and a couple locally (one of them today). For once it's not the usual Millers are crap, service lousy etc etc. I had to grudgingly ring Millers today as i need a new front pipe for the TY250 and John Cane and J K Hirst hadnt got them in stock. Spoke to a new voice, not usual miserable cant be bothered ones. It appears that the business has been bought lock stock and barrel and has moved just down the road and will be trading as Sammy Miller Products. I dont know much more and this is their first week of trading so they are trying to sort out the stock they have and put it on file. Why is the licence fee for trials so cheap? I, like a few others are seriously demoralised by the lack of vision the ACU has in developing youth trials and I for one are sick at seeing lots of home grown talent going nowhere because there isn’t any funding available. The decision to not increase the licence fee is ridiculous. Where is the vision and leadership from the ACU to do something about this situation? By not increasing it they have effectively 'DE-CREASED' the money available due to inflationary effects so there will be less in the pot next year than there was this year. While I was up dropping the kids off at my parents, they threw a few old photos my way, and this was amongst them. I don't remember some of the names. Addingham Moorside Closure. I have been contacted by my Club, Yeadon Guiseley & District Motor Club, who has sole use of Addingham for organised events, to issue a statement regarding the future of trials at this venue. Our club secretary Sue Smith is in regular contact with the landowner, and has received the following news this morning. Mr Alan Fothergill has received a written order from the council, stating that he must pad-lock the gate forthwith, and not allow this piece of land to be used for any kind of motorcycle use, either practicing or organised events run by our club Yeadon Guiseley for at least 12 months! Just got my riding number through this morning. Is anyone else on here riding?

In our part of the country where club memberships are small and run by members who are riders it has always been a problem getting observers. Events normally end up short of observers resulting in members giving up rides or sharing observer duties. What are other clubs doing to attract/reward people who are kind enough to observe or do they have some kind of system for riders to do the observing and ride.. Large membership clubs who have non riding members perhaps don't get this problem or do they?

A number of people asked me at the Scott what my plans were for a Trials Central Trial in 2006. We had a very successful get-together in 2004 courtesy of Bradford & District, but that was when the site was relatively new and still quite small. Since 2004 the site has exploded and the workload, along with my world round involvement left me unable to sort something out for 2005. However, I'm keen to see this resurrected for 2006 and to become a firm annual event. I'm also keen to take it on tour with different Clubs hosting it throughout central UK.
