Hi all, I wonder if you could help me with my 2 questions below... 1) I am currently finishing the full restoration of a model 150 Sherpa T 250 and got the engine running today after installing the (new style) electronic ignition from Dave at Bultaco UK. The bike starts, idles, revs and runs really nicely - the problem is that when i blip the throttle the revs don't drop back to idle as quickly as i would expect. After each blip, the revs drop gradually, slowly settling back to normal idle - it may only take 1-2 seconds, but it doesn't seem quite right to me. - I have had the engine fully re-built by the guys at Bultaco UK, so it should all be sound - The throttle se…

Sounds like an election year question, eh? I'm getting a serious jones for a Sherpa, but I already have 4 different shift/clutch/throttle configurations in the herd, and another just might send me over the edge. Actually...I no longer have a right-foot shifter, so, in some sick way, it might round out my "collection". I do have a left-hand throttle that's good for some very scary moments because the right grip twists too (spark control). Anyway...I know all street bikes had to shift on the left starting in '75, is this the case for offroad stuff, too? I also know that it was a quickly-made rule that caught even HD by surprise, and their first couple years of left-…

Not sure whether this is the right forum, but there seems to be more knowledge of twin shock Bultacos here. Just acquired a fairly original (85) Alpina, and I could do with some advice and information. Does anyone out there have one? These are my pressing questions Where can I buy new/secondhand bits? Does anyone have a handbook for sale? Were the rear shocks longer than the Sherpa? Should there be a foam filter in the air box? Does anyone have one? Why did I buy it? Perhaps Big John's disorder is spreading? Thanks Geoff

Hi there, I have recently bought a 199A, and whilst cosmetically it is very good, mechanically it has some issues. This is my first Bultaco, so some help would be much appreciated. There seems to be some funny goings on relating to the wheels. They seem to both be offset in the forks/swingarm. Is this normal or something more sinister afoot? The rear wheel rubs the swing arm unless adjusted out quite drastically. I am wondering if the hubs are from a larger bike etc. I am hopefully attaching some photos that will show the issue I'm having. Your advice is much appreciated, Thanks

Spotted this on the web while searching google for pics. The owner did some really nice work with a list of mods that include a self made tank that is an inch or two shorter. Pretty cool bike that looks like it works really good. If you are on this site I just want to say nice job!

I'm new with my Bultaco Lobito (bought as a Sherpa but that's another story!) So far I haven't been able to find much information on the bike... and if I could it would be in Spanish, which isn't very helpful. What bike is the Lobito anyway? I read that it was intended for youngsters who are too big for small bikes, but even that basic information was hard to find...it doesn't really look or feel "small"...any clues are helpful. Now the story... after cleaning my lovely AMAL I thought I should check the spark, that was easy as there was none. After taking the side cover off and sanding the points for some time (not that easy to come by) I gave it a try and had a spar…

Hi... I'm considering replacing the original clutch plates on my Alpina with more modern "friction material" as available from a certain well known Bultaco supplier (that I may not be supposed to mention by name but I'm sure it's pretty obvious). So... Is it worth the ninety odd quid it's going to cost me? I should say, I'm in the middle of restoring the bike (1972 175 Alpina) and have not really tried the original clutch to see if there are any faults, just thought it easier to do now if it's worth it? Thanks in advance... Dave

Hi, I'm going to wire my bike but very confused with the wiring diagrams in the manuals as they all look slightly different! I have three wires coming out of the engine; green, yellow and black, many of the diagrams show four wires, so what's correct? Has anyone a definitive diagram or has re-wired a M85. Thanks for your help.

Hi All, I''ve almost completed the build of my M158, and took it for it's first spin today. We put the engine together fully expecting piston slap as the clearance was well over service limits and sure enough it sounds like it's got a bad case of it. It's going well enough, first time I've ridden a Sherpa 250, very different power to my old 350. It picks up quite nicely at higher revs when you give it the gas, and the engine is turbine smooth. Anyway, I just wanted confirmation on the piston slap diagnosis from the experts on here. Cheers

Hello all I am new to the forum and joined to get information on restoring my 340. I was thinking about the exhaust and have seen photo's of commerfords/vesty bikes and the puma bikes. If I was going to the bother of fabing up a new front tube would you go for stainless and would you change the route of the pipe.? cheers.

You've bid on that twinshock, sometime on Sunday evening, with assistance from a nice glass of wine and a loosened finger on the mouse button. Anyway, went round to see Gavin (read more here) and his latest acquisition, what he thinks is a 1971 Model 80 Bultaco. The recently finished Montesa 247 looks concours, but this might be more of a challenge. All other horror stories or comments on the Bultaco welcome :-)

All has been going well apart from paint from the tank clogging the carb. I changed all the fluids and put an inline filter in but now it won't start. Plug was oily so I assumed flooding and kicked it over for a while put new plug in and it started second kick. It wouldn't rev and was stuttering a little regardless of choke position. Suddenly it stopped. Kicked it over again and it fired briefly and stopped again. Gave it a few more kicks to no avail and pulled the plug. Really oily again. Any ideas? Cheers. Neil

Hi guy's, New here and I last owned a triles bike (Bultaco) a few years ago now. I'm normally used to building big jap fours so this beasty shouldn't prove to troublesome EXCEPT sourcing parts. Just returned from fetching my new toy. A 1970 sherpa T that hasn't been started for at least 10 years. Bit of a state with a few bits missing but shouldn't take too long to get up and running then test it out before maybe pulling it apart and restoring it properly. First question of probably dozens over the next few weeks..... Where is the best place to obtain parts (new and s/h)? Thanks in advance

Happiest chap in Bultacoland today! just fished my first rebuild of anything and it happens to be the type of bike I obsessed over 30+ years ago and could never have! The only thing I didn't do was split the engine. The amazing thing is it actually goes and seems to go quite well! round the yard at least! so by way of saying thanks to everybody on here who has patiently answered my many questions, heres a couple of pics. I've also had great help from the chaps at Inmotion as well as John Collins in Wales and honestly, without the help of guys like them and the knowledge on this forum I'd never have managed it. the bike was built to be usable, not a thing of perfection…

Hi,I recently got a 1969 model 49 which i am slowly doing a running restoration. So far i have replaced the crank seals, points and condenser, changed the carb for a Mikuni VM,replaced the wheel bearings and hub seals and fixed a hole in the tank. I road it for first time at a trial on Sunday and what fun i had on it. Over the last month or so i have been reading all i can on this Bultaco section and have found out many new things. I will keep you up to date as my work carries on and may well be calling on your vast store of know haw. regards Paul250
