Well, I just happened to be talking to my dad about the legend that is Eddie Lejeune and he said to me "one min" and walked out the room , he came back with 30 odd pictures that he took of the SSDT in 1982, up until now I had never seen any of these pictures ! What a numptey! Any way, for the past hour or so I have been scanning them in , so I can post them on here for people to see. The SSDT organisers are constantly looking forward to the future of the event. One factor that becomes more and more difficult is the management of the West End carpark. This years bad weather highlighted some of the disadvantages with the venue as it must be one of the most exposed start areas in the trials world ! Another major problem is car parking and this has got to the point of detracting from the general competitor and spectator experience. Digging through some old paperwork and came across the 1983 official programme for the SSDT. I understood from Lampkin that the Evo 250 might not do the distance between fuel stops with the OEM tank. He recommended me to install the Hebo aux tank as a safety measure. In order to practice the same way, I installed one on my Evo 290, and today in the morning I went out for a ride with the aux tank full. I hate it! it might be only couple of pound more but it's right on the front and ruin all the bike handling. Can I carry in my backpack 500ml emergency gas? is it enough? is it allowed??? So here is some questions, which will follow with more questions in the near future - Gear. I was thinking on Gaerne oiled boots (on the way) with...which is the most comfortable pants/jersey/gloves? I have the MSR ISDE Pack-Jack as very light, foldable into itself rain jacket... - Camelback? which tools? - How it's work on the end of the day if I want to do some mechanical work? Can I use mechanic? Do I have limited time and special space to do it? - Can I get between fuel stops on the original gas tank or should I get auxiliary tank on the fork? Dougie's comeback ride has obviously been one of many highlights of this year's event, but I was wondering does anybody know what was the problem with Dougie's bike on Monday that caused such a loss of time ? - saw a vid on youtube of him trying to kick it into life, then wheeling it away, Then what happened ? presumably he carries a spare plug, wonder how it was fixed, whatever it was.

Hello im new on here and a few of us would like you go and watch the SSDT next year. whats the best way to get around to see the sections. i dont have a bike licence and my bike isnt road reg. i was still wondering if i went up in a van with the trials bikes could i ride my bike to a couple of sections or will im have to walk. cheers

One of the news items this week has drawn attention to the old problem of illegal practising on land/sections used for the SSDT. This jeopardises the event and the Club are rightly concerned about. Once again, the selfish few threaten the enjoyment of thousands (riders and spectators on holidays). Surely it can't be too difficult to scare off/catch the perpetrators?? They must be locals (Lochaber area or slightly beyond) because nobody is going to drive from even the North of England to do this, let alone those from south of Birmingham...!

Anybody who hasn't been sleeping for the last few months will know that our very own Ishy and Perce are both riding the SSDT - and what with Ishy declaring his outright superiority and Perce shedding the pounds at a rate of knots, it's shaping up to be a tough competition between them. It's two years since Ishy rode the SSDT and at that point he beat Perce by 13 marks, so I think the gauntlet has been thrown down this year and Perce is right up for the challenge....so the question on everybody's lips must be who is winning so far? After reading HL's above post got me thinking how could you boost the entry in years when economy and such may have an effect on the entry numbers. What if Thur, Fri, Sat, were open for a three day event to fill the ranks of those riders who had gone out of the event in the first three days, even allow them to re enter if they have gone out due to bike failure if they can get their machine sorted. Some first timers may not want to take on the full trial to start with but may take on three days to see what it's like, and the older riders who think six days would just be too much, may jump at the chance to ride the last three days. I presume everyone has got there riding numbers for scotland. I am going up to watch for a bit in the early part of the week and wondered what numbers some of you regular contributors on here are. Kinell, Perce, Ishy, Gizza and anyone else who posts on here. So I can cheer you all on. Good luck to you all. You are braver men and women than me.
