Hi all, A couple of years ago I bought a 1985 Montesa Cota 330 as a non runner. I planned to get it going and sell on for a bit of profit. Having got the beast running I couldn't bring myself to part with it. I have now decided to do a little more work and use the bike. Does anyone have any details as to what mods I should consider to make it more competetive and reliable? Riding it around the drive the footpegs seem so high and the handlebars so low. Is this common with bikes of this age? - I am considering lowering the pegs but even the ground clearance seems too high compared to modern stuff. I am missing a few parts. Namely an airbox which I can't locate at th…

After attending the Malvern show last week I am pretty sure that the new updated Yamaha Majesty has got to be the best twinshock bike available................but wonder what other people might choose if money no object, and they could afford any twinshock bike? MM

I just won the E Bay auction for a former Donato Miglio works Garelli Trial 320. I am very excited to get my hands on this rare and interesting bike. I wonder if there's anyone out there who knows anything about them or has one? I searched the web and found a guy in CZ who is looking for kickstarter parts. I am certain the kicker mechanism is a weakness of this machine. I will be trying to resolve this problem enough to at least ride the old girl a little bit. Heres a picture of the beast. Sincerely, Jay Lael.

I've just spent most of today repairing and tidying what appears to be an early Ty250 Yam based Majesty frame.Stripped threads, missing captive nuts and sawn off rear frame loop. All sorted now,but while I was doing it I noticed quite a difference in the quality of the work on the parts that are modded from the original layout. The welds and brackets for the rear shocks are nicely made and well done for example, but the join at the rear of the toolbox under the top tube is a bit "Orrible".I'm doing it for a mate and I've never really taken much notice of the frames before,(Only the new ones at Telford etc)it got me wondering if its a proper Shirt modified one or a copy. Is t…

  7. I'm working on getting mine back together after having it in pieces for several years. I did a search and it looks like there are a few other KT250 owners (at least one with a Gollner frame) here, but some of those posts were pretty old. http://www.eurospares.com/kt250.htm is a page on my website with information on my bike. I've put Fox Trials Shox on, retoothed the dished rear sprocket, modified the head squish clearances, done a little porting, built a pipe, aluminum tank (terminal rust on the stocker) and front fender stays and not much else. The piston is a second series Honda CR/MT250 Wiseco ((1975-77). Details of some of the changes are on my website. I'm ge…

Fancy doing something a bit different, I've seen a pic of a fourstroke engine in what looked like a TY twinshock frame, lovely looking machine. I understand you can buy Chinese engines (Honda copys) off John Bliss for right money, I've heard one of these engines running and it did sound very sweet. Has anybody put a fourstroke engine in a yam frame?? any major problems? Cheers Mark P.S don't want a TLR, just fancy something different

Are these two types of bike increadably rare? I've read the Wassell was made in Birmingham and the Dalesman in Otley but the Wassell & later model of Dalesman both had a Sach 124cc engine plus a 6 speed box and both look pretty similar if not identical from photos I've seen on the internet. Were they basically the same bike ? Over the past couple of years I been dreaming of one day coming across one for sale so if anyone could point me in the direction of one, it'd be much appreciated. thanks

I have had chronic tuning problems with my 247T and spent hours on forums and decades (it feels like pulling carbie on and off, changing jets, needles ..... I recently had to replace the woodruff key got it started but it was dying for no reason at low revs and then hard to start. So I decided to pull the carb off for a routine clean and while I was at it I lowered the needle just to see what affect it would have. To my delight the needle adjustment appeared to improve my top end performance - but the cleaned carbie did not fix the dying. The bike is going great - probably best I have ever had it but for example when riding down a cow track leading to a creek cros…

  13. Hi Guy's. Just thought I better post this into the right spot. It is time to consider every option we have to get new blood into the sport. And OTF has already said they have this type of class in the Peak Classic trials , so there is a start. Anyway this is what I posted onto Pre 65. Just think about it. Hi Guy's Hi ElGringo. What you have said in your piece, makes me think, that what a friend and I have been thinking, is probably one way forward to get more riders into the sport.CHEAPLY. What we were considering was a "Trick-Shock" class, where the only stipulation for the bike being built would be. "A"] to use and air cooled engine of any origi…

This has probably been discussed before, ad nauseum, but....I think I'll be selling a bike or two and reconfiguring the herd, and I might have a few bucks left over. There's what looks like a pretty cool vintage club around here, and I just might throw my hat (helmet?) in the ring. I'm not interested in thumpers...not to ride, anyway...what I'd really be looking for is the twin-shock with the most modern manners. I've owned a TY175, but, as a lad, always coveted the Bultacos and Montesas...so I have unresolved Spainish bike issues. I live in the US, so some of the British specials (Majesty, etc) are not available here. Anyway...I'd like some feedback on what you all…

  16. OK for those that dont know i do the report for the Peak Classic Trials Club for publishing in T&MX News and always post the same report here on Trials Central in the Trials Reviews forum. As i dont feel that forum is necessarily the best place for a debate i thought it prudent to reply to a members posting but i thought it best to do it here. Majdaz wrote. "Hi Paul, In respect to your well worded and much appreciated review of the recent Peak Classic July trial, I'd just like to ask why the win for Simon Foulke in the twinshock class was controversial. I agree parts such as the engine and front end are ty mono, but the rear portion of the bike is a standard twi…

Hi, just bought a Malcolm Rathmell replica from ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...p;rd=1&rd=1 and was wondering what , if any , is different on the bike from a std 348 ? also what year was it made ? frame number is 51m 7995 with matching engine numbers. It rides superbly thou it may have a worn main bearing but for the price its a great toy Thanks Dave

I just recently picked up a Montesa Cota 348 and I am in the process of replacing some parts to make the bike tight and functional again. Alas, it show it's age and use, despite being well maintained by it's previous owners. To date, I've bought new brake shoes and installed, replaced the rear wheel bearings and seals, repacked the front wheel bearings [ they were still good ], replaced a badly leaking shifter-shaft seal, changed trans and clutch oils. I also lightly filed the points and reset ignition timing. I discovered that there was a small hole punched in the case from the kick-starter "bump / stop" on the shaft, allowing chain grease and dirt to enter the ignit…
