Montesa

  1. Started by kingscorpion,

Following a request that my friend Enrique made to me in the La Maneta forum, I decided to write a small guide to help those who do not know how the amazing “Montesa parts manuals” work, which make life easier for everyone who uses them. Above all, if we understand them as they were conceived in the factory. Even today I am amazed by the mentality of Pedro Permanyer, at a time when we were far from the rising of computer science in our lives. The system can’t be more logical. The first thing we should know is that, from the Impala, all Montesa parts have a unique reference formed by three groups of numbers (and sometimes a fourth group). These groups were separated…

Surely the 4RT is getting ready for replacement? As brilliant as it is, it's time HRC/Mont replaced it with a direct injected two stroke less 25 or 30 pounds. Maybe I'll start a petition.

Hi everyone My names Steve,i live in Spain. Ive recently bought a part restored 247 for me and my son Dan to work on [ill try and post some pics]. Im just doing a dry build at the moment to see whats missing. My question is,does the exhaust header pipe have to be screwed into the barrel before the engine is secured. the engine is in at the moment and the screw in clamp is hitting the frame. Thanks Steve

So everyone raves about the quality of the 4rt and probably rightly so however ! I have a 2014 model from new, have to say I love the bike, would love it even more if it were not for the niggels. when I first got the bike home I tried to remove the seat/mud guard to find the right side rear screw had been cross threaded into the hanger. After six months and many calls I eventually received a new screw and hanger and even though the bikes don't have warranty it was FOC. Two weeks ago I noticed the steering becoming a bit notchy. stripped down the head to find the top bearing knackered and this was no doubt down to the bearing seal not being fitted correctly (from new) a…

Looks like the 2017 model info is out. Doesn't look like a 300 engine. I can't really see any differences besides aesthetics? Anyone else see any changes?

Hi All. I live in Ontario Canada and I just managed to get hold of a 1973 Cota 247 in kit form OR as I like to call it a challenging project! The previous owner has stripped everything down - and I mean everything - boxes containing engine/brake/etc... no order to anything! Has anybody any idea where I can get a manual from? Thanks Steve

Found in the dark of an old parking in Cordoba, southern Spain, this same week. This 1969 Montesa Cota is completely original, never restored, even with the original tyres and the best of all... road registered and now mine !!!! This beautifull Montesa will be my project for this 2012. And hope this will be the result after some work...

  13. Help please , I was riding in a trial today and whilst in a section my 4rt just cut out, I couldn’t get it to restart, did the usual reset but no joy, it was like as if I’d ran out of fuel but I hadn’t. I Retired and went home. Any ideas ?

right here goes!..... ive had numerous starting issues with this bike now I have another. Bike would not start at the weekend. (again!) After much investigation and testing listed below the bike will only run if the bike is kicked once to prime the injector and then the tank pump disconnected...it will then start (after two kicks) and run for a few seconds on the fuel sat in the injector. If I re-connect the pump it floods and its just a wet plug...not even a hint of starting? if I connect the pump whilst its running the engine dies. all electrical tests as per manual ok. 12v output at the plug under tank. good earths at yellow plug and to and from the ECU. new…

Read a post this morning about Elf HTX740. The thread was asking where it could be bought now BVM have ceased trading . Guys ,whome is an active contributor to this site stated that GRO 75w was good and he uses that. Reading more guff on the ELF HTX , someone said " it says on the label not for oil bathed clutches". So whats not in it ? Or whats in it that's not good for wet clutches ? Any one know ? What i can tell you is that they use a similar product ,also ELF,in the old Citroen VTR 5 speed gear box and it's nasty stuff full of detergent . Recognized the sickly smell straight away.Going to do some digging on this subject as my mate is a rep for Castrol BP,see if he…

  19. OK, so in the absence of a spark on my 247, I guess it's time to overhaul the ignition set-up... Motoplat system. I've purchased a flywheel puller, timing tool (plug type), points and condenser, but being new to the old-school points system fitted, I'm clueless as to how to proceed. Can someone clarify: 1: Rotate flywheel clockwise to fully open points, as viewed through flywheel 'slot'? 2: Remove flywheel using puller tool, then set points gap accordingly - what is the specified gap? 3: Insert timing tool in plug hole, then rotate flywheel clockwise (loosely refitted), until TDC is reached - then further rotate flywheel clockwise until the requir…

Just thought I'd start a separate thread about the soon to be shown Cota RR. Is this going to be The New bike everyone has been waiting for? Or a special limited edition 4rt. Normally something with RR tagged to the name, is pretty trick, so maybe a very limited special bike for top riders to ride in national and world rounds.
