Just a brief history of my FI experience. With the exception of basic servicing and bleeding injection systems on diesel engines my FI experience started on tillotson carburettors on Karts in the late 1970s. Although they were called carburttors they did not have floats but rather relied on injecting fuel through high and low speed jets. The fuel was pressurised using diaphragms moved by crankcase pressure. Compared to a float type carburettor they had the advantages that the mixture could be adjusted whilst driving and they were unaffected by cornering forces that could be in excess of 4G. Interested to gauge opinion here ...... If you were looking at buying a 2016 model bike what would you buy and why ? I'm looking at buying a bike next year and want a new one (it's nice to treat yourself) the Montesa's look nice but are out of my price range. (I Had a bounce on one at the NEC yesterday) I had been looking at Shercos as I liked the look of them and the price, but also had a go on a beta on the try trials area (albeit a 125) And it got me thinking .... By the looks of it the beta is around £500 more than the Sherco (was looking at 300's) is there other makes i should be considering around the same price bracket ? Since its been implied I am a luddite (regarding EFI) and the number who have problems with hydraulics I thought I would start tis thread. Do we need hydraulic brakes and clutches on trials bikes? I have never had to retire from an event either trials or MX because of a cable failure. I have had retirements because of damage to hydraulic parts as do several others I know. Quite a few seem to struggle with brake hydraulics in particular, but I would think most could fix mechanical systems much easier.

hello, If bike sales are down and we need more people to get into our sport to keep it alive what are we going to all do about it? When I first started (1970s and 80s) entering competitive motorsports entry fees were as follows. Trials about 1/2 to 3/4 of a typical houly rate MX about 1 to 1&1/4 of a typical hourly rate Karting 1 to 1&1/4 of a typical hourly rate Autograss 3/4 to 1 typical hourly rate Now Trials 1 to 2 times typical hourly rate MX (£40) 3 times typical houly rate Karting (£45) more than 3 times typical houly rate Autograss (£6 to £7) 1/2 typically hourly rate I know a major reason why Karting fees have increased is increased safety costs and investment in facilities. These do not apply to off road bike sports so why the excessive increases in entry fees.?

The Vertigo is expected to give about 30 HP, 300s from Beta, Sherco and Gasgas are reckoned to give in region of 25 / 27 HP. These sort of power outputs may be what a few top riders need for firing the bike up big steps and very steep slopes on dry grippy terrain, but is is needed or even desirable for 99% of riders?

I would probably have put this in SSDT 3 or 5 post had Andy not locked it. Watching the SSDT videos, other trials videos and my experience at quite a few trials it seems to be common practice to have sections on the hardish side which cause momentary stops and then mark them leniently as a 3. On the SSDT videos (thanks they are excellent) there seemed to be a lot of riders legging or stopping rather than riding. What do riders favour - hard sections with lenient (strictly incorrect) marking, or Easier sections marked stringently. I favour the latter

Apart from electric bikes, is there any more ways to develop the petrol bikes? We're at a minimum weight of some 65kg....................so apart from a bit of tweaking and titivation, is there any further strides in Trials bike development that can be achieved and is this it?
