The hundred dollar question. What is happening to British trialling? Last Wednesday evening the Bradford club staged the fourth W.B.S Championship trial at the excellent Hagg Farm venue near Skipton on a compact course with stream and climb sections laid out by sponsor Nathan Wrigglesworth and the Bradford stalwarts. Just thirty-nine riders, of all ages, supported the trial which ironically was about the same number that entered the national Allan Jefferies Trial two months ago, a traditional trial with a great history that sadly did not happen simply because of the lack of entries......... Ride on sunday and go to work monday ,not hospital ,winner mid thirtys next best mid seventys top ten 100 that is big scores ,lets see the top boys on ten top ten on 20/30 joe average 50/60 . Yeadon Guiselel DMC held their AGM last night and voted all club trials will go No Stop for 2012. Also confirmed was two seperate routes for the small wheels and EClass courses. D & C class riders on electric or petrol bikes not quite ready for the main small wheels class are more than welcome to ride the E route until they feel ready to move up.

So just been looking on Facebook and Steve Saunders has posted sating the no stop trial he was as yesterday was ridiculous, too hard, impossible to ride as no stop, confusing, off putting for kids who will ultimately be driven away from the sport. Nearly every response on there was slagging off no stop and wanting 'stop allowed' rules. Now I don't want to generalise (again) but most of the people of Facebook will be younger than 40 (I appreciate Steve is not below 40) which again tells you who is dictating the rules of our sport - old boys who cannot do or appreciate modern riding. Hi my name is Ben wibberley and I have been riding trials since I was 5. I have been a regular competitor in the British trials championship for many years. I rode round 2 of the championship at Westwood near Barnsley and I have to say I think it was one of the worst trials I have ridden this year. I rode the championship class going up from expert A last year as the rules have changed to non-stop and they were meant 2 ease the sections. But I dropped over 100 which is more than I usually did last year. This is because the sections were not set to the rules and some are un-rideable without stopping!!! As title says really and without wanting to start the whole 'stop allowed' V's 'no stop' thing again. I was at the Wallace yesterday and saw Alexz in the section where he was docked 2 points. He either dropped a 0 or he dropped a 5, he didn't drop 2. The observer in question couldn't even explain where Wiggy had dropped his 2 points and was giving riders who actually stopped a 0.... Ultimately this ridiculous marking cost Wiggy the trial as he actually stayed clean all day. Now taking away 'stop' or 'no stop' the BIGGEST issue here is observer consistency. With the World round at Hawkstone looming on the horizon and the success of our get-together last year, planning is underway for similar this year. The way things are shaping is: * We'll again have a tent - bigger this year. * We'll again be running big screen Trials DVD's (great for keeping the kids amused!) * We'll again have a barbecue on-site. We are holding a round of the Midland Centre Homemaster Removals Youth Championship at Top Farm in two weeks time and the ground needs a few tyres over it. Does anyone fancy meeting up one evening or maybe next weekend for a few hours? Top Farm has a permanent trials practice area and another area which we open up for events. I've been up there this morning and the recent heavy rain and warm weather has made the weeds grow up around the sections. The venue would benifit a great deal from being used prior to setting out for the trial. Much diplomacy post the first round from the published statements by riders and importers. Plaudits to the organising club and all those who travelled a LONG way to ride. When was the last time a BTC round had that many starters? Looking at some old Kick-start videos the other day, then watching the world round at Hawkstone, its pretty clear to anyone that with modern machinery and new levels of fitness and skill from the 'pilots' , trials has progressed to an unprecedented level.. but my question is :- Where can it go from here? I will probably be a bit unpopular with this comment but I didn't find this years Hawkstone as good as last years (TC Party excluded). Why is the licence fee for trials so cheap? I, like a few others are seriously demoralised by the lack of vision the ACU has in developing youth trials and I for one are sick at seeing lots of home grown talent going nowhere because there isn’t any funding available. The decision to not increase the licence fee is ridiculous. Where is the vision and leadership from the ACU to do something about this situation? By not increasing it they have effectively 'DE-CREASED' the money available due to inflationary effects so there will be less in the pot next year than there was this year. For me, this is a problem that keeps coming up. I think a few people fell fowl of it today. The marking in our area is generally very slack with regard to giving a one for stopping. I can count on one hand the number of ones I've had in the past few years for stopping (Before anyone says anything, yes that's about six ). One in South Wales, one in the Midlands (infact every time I dabbed my brake I could hear the bloke counting ), and a couple locally (one of them today). A number of people asked me at the Scott what my plans were for a Trials Central Trial in 2006. We had a very successful get-together in 2004 courtesy of Bradford & District, but that was when the site was relatively new and still quite small. Since 2004 the site has exploded and the workload, along with my world round involvement left me unable to sort something out for 2005. However, I'm keen to see this resurrected for 2006 and to become a firm annual event. I'm also keen to take it on tour with different Clubs hosting it throughout central UK. Just recieved a letter this morning informing me that 'Trials World' has siezed publication. Not enough people subscibing to it is the reason.

Can some one explain ? The "comp levy" can't be £5 per rider per event !!! Does this also mean that ACU licence holders are going to be charged an extra £6 per event ??

A good few years ago the ACU brought in rule TSR22a ie: Stop and you get a 1 This was brought about to keep in line with the (at the time )FIM world rules. I now think that it is time the ACU updated the rules in line with the FIM. It is like asking our footballers to play with 2M wide goals and 11 men but when they go to Europe/Worldwide play with 3m wide goals and 21 men. In which other regulated worldwide sport do you see the massive difference in rules? The ACU are under the FIM umbrella so to speak. Let the SSDT, Scott etc run under what ever rules are needed for that type of event, but lets get the grass roots of the sport settled into 1 set of rules.…
